A 52 YO M has experienced wt. loss and nausea for past 6 mo. No vomiting or diarrhea. Upper GI endoscopy reveals a 6-cm- diameter area of irregular pale fundic mucosa w/ loss of rugal folds. A biopsy reveals monomorphous infiltrate of lymphoid cells, and in the mucus overlying the mucosa, rod shaped organisms are identified with Steiner silver stain. He receives antibiotic therapy and a repeat biopsy shows a resolution of the infiltrate. The condition that best explains the findings is:

1) Acute gastritis
2) Autoimmune gastritis
3) Chronic gastritis
4) Burkitt type malignant lymphoma
5) Crohns Disease
6) Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue tumor

11. What evidence shows that H. pylori infection increases the risk of MALT lymphoma?
Nearly all patients with gastric MALT lymphoma are infected with H. pylori, and the risk of developing this tumor is over six times higher in infected people than in uninfected people (9). Furthermore, up to 80 percent of patients with gastric MALT lymphoma achieve complete remission of their tumors after treatment with H. pylori-eradicating antibiotic therapy (2).
