hi friends..i wanted to know whether we should palpate a patient even when he has abdominal pain for eg.suppose we get a patient of appendicitis and he doesnt allow us to touch and ellicit the signs like rebound tenderness...or in an IM patient he has pain in LUQ and so we cant palpate his spleen bcos of his pain.
should we just write that the sign could not be elicited bcos the patient is in severe pain?
thanks..GL

if a says he is having pain in particular area try to avoid that place as much as u can. in the case of pain abdomen first do very gentle superficial palpation. if the pt says pain don't touch it again . palpate and auscultate other areas. if u do deep palpation in that area the he will cry with pain.
