Ummm ... maybe i didnt explain myself well ... okay , i will give it another shot ..

We have a case of Bl ood in stool ,do we put in the work/up " check for occult blood " ... we already have been told that the patient (sees) the b lood in his stool ,so would it make any sense to check for occult bl ood as well?? in the first aid they have mentioned Occult B as a part of the WU for a patient with b in stool ... it didnt make sense to me ,. can u elaborate on that

Best of luck for everyone

if the patient comes in for occult blood, i was still add rectal exam and occult blood test in the workup. you would want a documentation on the record.

But the patient tells u ( There is grossly observed blood in stool ) would u still order OCCULT blood ?!??! whats the point in ur opinion ?

Here's the thing icarus:
even if the patient tells you that there's FRANK blood in the stool , YOU still have NOT seen it .. and the next stool the pt passes may or may not contain blood .. SO , we order a Rectal exam with Occult blood anyway !!
Hope ur satfisfied with that answer grin
