THANKS for the info..i didnt knew about this.. you need to be ideally passing your step3 before u start residecny for h1b, but for safe reasons, the programs would like you to finish it before the match..and the best would be having it completed before interview and the ultimate would be before you apply.. right from the fsmb: USMLE Step 3 Eligibility Requirements<!-- InstanceEndEditable --> <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="Paragraph01" --> The USMLE program requires the following to be completed prior to submitting a Step 3 application: - Obtain an M.D. degree (or its equivalent) or a D.O. degree (or its equivalent).
- Pass both USMLE Steps 1 and 2 (CK and CS).
- If a graduate of a foreign medical school, obtain certification by the ECFMG or successfully complete a "Fifth Pathway" program.
- Meet the requirements for taking Step 3 imposed by the individual licensing authority to which you are applying to sit Step 3.
You must be eligible to sit for Step 3 at the time you submit the application. <!--- If you have taken the Step 3 previously, you may not reapply prior to 60 days from the date of the prior Step 3 administration.-->
- The USMLE program limits all individuals to three attempts at a Step within a 12-month period. You may not apply for a fourth attempt at Step 3 prior to the expiration of 12 months from the date of the first Step 3 administration.

Every program is going to have a difference answer. Some will want the results when you interview so that they know that you qualify for the visa, some will say that as long as you have the results in your hand by the time that the match is submitted or results released. It's not going to be a straight "You have to have it by blah, blah date"

Hey guys, Come on ''. Dont worry. What the above news means is that in order to get triad of oct , nov , dec U need to apply earlier than 4 sept (which is the last triad for 2007) BUT U can surely apply after 4 sept and get nov, dec, jan triad or dec, jan , feb triad. Hows that Good luck !!!

Confirm? You will have to ask each program you apply to when they will want your results. Good luck

Good luck !!! thats because the fsmb website says... "All applications for the USMLE Step 3 2007 application cycle must be received by September 4, 2007 at 5pm central time." so how do i interpret this ?

I agree wth the above post by Residency08. You can apply on Sept 5 and give the exam within one month of that if you want. The FSMB message is confusing for many, but what they really mean is that they will have new application season after sept 4, just like ECFMG has new application materials for new season. But it doesn not make any difference to us as applicants.

Hmmmmmm I thought what they meant was that those who expect to give the exam in the year 2007 need to send their application before 5 pm EST on sept 4. Those who do so afterwards will be able to sit for exams only in the year 2008 begining in the 3rd week of jan.

bbb need ur help to clear the confusion. see the posts by zygone, gurdass maan and residency08 are not congruent and the fsmb website says "All applications for the USMLE Step 3 2007 application cycle must be received by September 4, 2007 at 5pm central time." anyone with a different view ?
