nnl, correct me if I am wrong bec as it is my basics are not very good but I was under the impression that IL 2 also activates CTLs . would that make the second option also right?
thanks....

IL-2 activates the cytotoxic (CD8) cells and in effect also NK cells...but because we are talking about tumor cells, it is better to pick NK cells because they are SPECIFIC for tumor infected cells

NK Cells r more Effective in the Tumor Suppression rather than CD 8 cells. Though u r essentially right, I also was abt to opt B but when i saw NK Cells i said Yup thats the one i m looking for.

ok thanks a lot for clearing it up for me
appreciate it a lot....

C-nk calls are enhanced by IL-2(others r IFN-alpha and IFN-beta)

  #9

c agree...il2 itself cant say is cytotoxic...coz it also stimulates B cells

  #10

B.. It is CTL activity due to Il2 therapy. Tumor cells is full of Class1. NK does not kill when classI is around.

  #11

i think ans is B. IL2 activates CTL's.
Although NK cells are more imp in tumour surveillance, the question mentions use of IL-2, which, as far as i know does not activate the NK cells, They are activated by IL12 & IFN-gamma.

oh, i found in kaplan pharma just now ( page 316) 2006-07, Aldesleukin ( IL-2) : increases Lymphocyte differentiation and increase NK, used in renal cell cancer and metastatic melanoma, why its not mentioned in immunology then, in immunology section it only mentioned that IFN-gamma and IL-12 activate NK.
