Hi all,
I took my exam recently........Its Tough !. The madest part is you dont know wheter the questions you answered are rightr or wrong. When I gave my NBME exam the first time, I felt it was very easy. But I got a score of 360. So I extended my prep and gave it again a day before the exam. This time, I got 490.
Many questions were tricky. Suprisingly time was no problem for me !! I had prep for S 3 using timed mode UW. I got 30 min extra at the end of the first 3 blocks day 1 which was the most easiest !. Questions were basic mostly.asking pure management than knowledge of theory per se. Hence in retrospect Swansons+UW+Kap S3 qbook+Kap online Qbank within 6 months of giving S2 is enough. I had an EKG mcq which turned out to be a ethics question ! SO dont get scared by huge EKG's and CT scans. Very few of the scans xrays were outside our knowledge level.
My CCS was not good. I had treated the first case well .but in my closeing I spent too much time scrolling for orders and advise...........I failed to note that the 5 min time was lapsing..I failed to enter a final Diagnosis for my first case ! because the computer closed the exam. ....UW+online practice is absoulutely essential for CCS......Unfortunately I could not get a good study partner for S3 ccs discussion.......Cases do come outside UW CCS. Use your head in the exam...If a case of DK does not improve then search for a focus of infection like pylelonephritis. !!
USMLE step 123 has a rudimentry interactive online CCS prep which I found usefull. Go for it if you dont find anyone to discuss CCS UW.........watch out for online study partners who want to use you as a tool.

The questions were defntly tougher but.of the same pattern..ie management style ...and still near tricky as the real questions.......hope this helps

Congrats! You passed that's all you need. A program director told me that you only need to pass Step 3, specially if you need H1b; they do not really care about the score, except in particular circumstances.
