The following was just received regarding an applicants personal statement:

We wish to bring to your attention the following facts related to the residency application of the person named above:
A program contacted ERAS to report that the personal statement submitted by the above applicant contained text found in a sample personal statement located on the website:
http://webcampus.drexelmed.edu/osa/careeradvising....
Our investigation revealed the applicant had in fact used a personal statement from the Web site referenced.
Dr. ___________ was contacted for a response to the allegation. Her response is enclosed for your review.
This memorandum is being sent to legitimately interested parties. ERAS makes no judgment as to the culpability of any person with respect to matters reported and does not assess the suitability of an individual to study or practice medicine. Rather, ERAS strives to communicate complete and accurate information to the parties involved in the residency application process. Evaluation of this information is the responsibility of the recipient of the report.

Just to let applicants through ERAS know that some programs are really looking close at the personal statements. It's okay to borrow items, but not to copy a personal statement, LORs, Deans Letters, etc.

my Question is that How did the Program know that their Sample was copied and Actually Presented in the Submitted Version to ERAS.
Does ERAS Cross Check the Personal Statments from the Sites or is it Vice Versa.

well answer for that is ..a software...
when i was a teaching assistant in my gard school, the department gave us a software.
when any student submitted a paper at the end of semester, what I use to do is copy paste the paper in the software and hit search..
what the software does is, it connects to internet and searches all the WWW and find out any thing similar to what the student has written..
I guess the programs may be using the same software....

YES,AZYGOUS is correct ,it can be found out like that.
The web /forums personal statements should not be copied.
BBB is a program coordinator for in ternal medicine program in U.S and she posted that it was reported and I think what she is saying is correct.
Even ERAS has send a letter to all the immmigrant applicants not to copy personal statements as it can be reported so
PLEASE EVERYBODY STAY AWAY FROM COPYING WEB PERSONAL STATEMENTS
