Supriya, beiwen, nany, thanks for stopping by. I know I can not study without all your support. Really appreciate it.

Today too many distractions, kids are at home for holiday(don't know what that for). Will push myself hard tomorrow. Only four more days for cardio. Have to finish UW Qs and review Kaplan Qs. If possible, scan Kaplan notes. I can do it!!smiling facegrin

Hello,

Im sorry for coming out of nowhere and droping a Q in a a "foreign" forum but me and some others are struggling to find the best way that we can use the Q-Banks in and on the other end there are some amazing people using these Q-Banks as their main studying tool (not mentioning their great scores on the boards wink ).

The other guy that got a 99 is done with all the steps and working on his Match, so here i am asking you, if you dont mind.

How do use the Q-Banks? What is your approach? Whats your technique? Do you make notes? Do you solve them over and over and over? do you read all the explanations or just those to the ones you got wrong? ...

Thanks for your time, and sorry once again ...

Hi praying4a99, thanks for dropping by. You had helped me with one stuff. So you are not coming from nowhere to me.

About using Qbanks (both Kaplan and UW, not only UW for me), solving the questions is not the key issue here. I would do them quickly, (most time could not care about the score), but spend the majority of time in reading all the explanations, making notes. From every Q, I learn a lot of stuff. Even the question itself will give me a lot of insights.

I review at least two times, more possibly three times for the Qbank. Then at last, I would do the marked Qs one more time, randomized, timed mode to test whether I have really mastered most of the concepts (the first time, subjects-wise). I gather at that time, I could get at least over 90 for each block of questions.

For step 1, I just used the Qbanks and FA, nothing else. But for step 2, I would add kaplan notes to my study formula. But I would only go through kaplan notes very quickly for two times, the most.

Every one has different approach to get a 99. Make sure your route will help you master most of the important concepts of all the subjects, and build up your skills in thinking and solving problems in a quick and right way. Hope this will help you a little bit on your preparation. GL.smiling face

Hi Praying4a99, one more thing to say. When reviewing the Qs and the explanations, I am thinking all the time, why I did that Q wrong, why I did that Q right; if the question stem changes a little bit, what will be the right answer; if the question asked something a little bit different, what will be the answer et al. When making the notes, sometime I put similar things together. For example, under what condition, you prefer cesarean section for a pregnant woman; I just list different situations which need c-section in one page. So it is easy to compare and memorize.

If you don't feel this is a comfortable way to study, don't force yourself into it. Whatever works best for you, go with that. We want to study efficiently and effectively, with the specific way we enjoy.

Best of luck.smiling face

I have been doing UW block revisions too. Keep going njcjzy....Somewhere after revising 30 blocks of questions, I am sure a sense of understanding will dawn on all of us and give us energy to complete the remaining blocks.nod

  #133

Awesome advice njcjzy, very interesting. Keep it up!!!!!!!!!nod

Hi friends, thanks for dropping by. Praying4a99, I am happy that my explanation could help you in some way.

Mcsteamy, you are right. The more Qs we encounter, the more concepts we can grasp. But we need very active learning during that process.

Ivonne, enjoy your study, my friend. I know you will get your dream score.

Match08, glad to see you again. I didn't finish all the Kaplan, but already in UW. So now, do both of them, same subject at the same time. Like one block of Kaplan, one block of UW. It is kind of waste of money. But maybe it will help to strenghthen each subject.

Feyza, I am doing OK with my IM. Will finish Cardio tomorrow. Hi once again, I want to say, don't care too much of the score now. We are looking at the final score. Yes, to most of people, the current practice score correspond very well with their real score. But now for us, if we do the Qs right from the beginning, instead of at the end, when we know a lot of stuff already. So don't be disappointed by any low score now. GL.

You are always right my dear friend, the most important is the final result. Enjoy your day nod

Ivonne and neuro, thanks for dropping by. Yes, we need to pay attention to the final goal. While everyday we have to work hard toward that goal. Every day's work builds up tomorrow's success.

Neuro, I still have some time. Postponed my date to next Jan or early Feb (paid for 50 bucks and have to extend my UW for more money, hope this will be paid off too.grin)

Done with Cardio. Today start pulmonary. Will finish this in three days.

  #142

We hope so my dear friend. Everything will be paid offnodnod. I will catch up with you in cardio as soon as i am done with surgery. All the best.

Ivonne, thanks for stopping by. Your words inspires me to keep moving.

Beiwen, yes, determination and perseverance matter the most in this marathone. I need to exercise which I stopped for a while so my body could support me in this difficult process.grinsmiling face

Begin to spend a lot of time with my kids. The little one loves to study but he needs a lot of guidance. The older one is happy that Mom could be her side to help, but she is still struggling with her easy distraction (we have the same trait.sticking out tongue ) I don't think this will influence too much of my study. I just need to be more concentrated during my own time.

Will start GI tomorrow, finish pulmonary today. A little bit slow, but will catch up to my own plan.smiling face

  #145

Spending time with our love ones is always the highlight of the daysmiling face. It is very important to focus in the time dedicated to study. i think that is the key. Best of luck my dearest friend.

Thanks, Ivonne. You are right. This is the critical while crazy time of our life. But whatever condition, we have to give some quality time to our family. It is hard to balance, but it pays off if we try to balance.

Two days for GI, start from tomorrow.

It had been bad days this week because I neglected my own body. Haven't exercised for some time, then got really sick this whole week. Felt a little bit down until yesterday. shaking head

Today is a new day. Feel much better. First went outside walking for half an hour. Now it is time to hit my UW. Will finish respiratory disease today. Tomorrow will be endo. Life is good. Study is enjoying. smiling facesmiling face
