After reading so many inspiring prep journals, I decided to start my own. Took my step 1 last Friday and had a nice break with my family, now it is time to get back to the track. Today is the preparation day, making all my plans. Tomorrow will be a fresh start.

The resources I want to use will be mainly Kaplan Qbank for two months, UWorld Qbank for two months. The books I will stick to FA and Crush step 2 in the last two and half months. The first 45 days, I will read through quickly blue print series. Just IM, use step-up. I already bought those books, and won't waste them. So I won't have any time for Kaplan notes. But I believe that will be fine. I will not prepare for the zebras, but for the horses, I think my resources would be more than enough.

So first will go through step-up to medicine in 15 days, write three blocks of Kaplan qbank each day.

Will relax one day per week, so I won't feel too exhausted and my kids won't feel being neglected.

I registered my exam date 12/14/2007. Hope I can stick to that. My hubby laughs at me that I am a good planner, not a good actionist. But I think with God's help and so many friends out here encouraging each other, I can reach my goal in this time frame.

Welcome any companions so we can inspire and encourage each other. We all need kind words in every aspect of our life.

Maybe I can start this evening with Kaplan Qbank. OK, let's do it.

Not a good start today. First went through a lot of pop megazines in the library, let the time fly by for about five hours. Then finished reading step-up medicine for the first 15pages.

But good thing is that I realized I can not mimic other's way of studying. I have to use the same strategy I used for my step 1 preparation. Because I am having limited time, I am going to use limited resources. So just Kaplan Qbank, UWorld Qbank. The books, just FA and crush. Others will be used when I need to clear some confusing points. As a easy distractor and slow reader, I guess this is the best way for me to prepare. And I believe it will be fine. Still aim a 99. gringrin

I visited your journal briefly. I am very impressed by your determination. I know you can achieve your goal, no doubt about that. Best of luck! smiling face

My dear journal,

This is the last time I visit you today. I used too much time reading through a lot of posts. Very nice posts, but consumes much time from me.

I don't know why I am not so excited to study for step 2. All the knowledges seem not that challenging to me, a little bit familiar, but confusing. I tried one block of Kaplan Qbank today, even with just a little bit reading, I got a 60% correct. Some guessing, some from step 1 study.

I know this is not a good attitude. Maybe I need to find a partner so we can move forward together and pursue a shining 99 together. So put a post over partner forum. Hope I can find an ideal one, living close by, maybe study in the same library. Daydreaming again.sticking out tongue

No, I have to change my mind set. In order to get an amazing score, I have to participate in this game, and play it as an expert. gringrin

Thanks, neuroblastoma, for stopping by and for your encouragement.

I bought FA long ago, then I found out it was not as fancy as FA for step 1. And several review gave high value to crush. So I bought crush early this year before I know this forum. Crush has similar content as Secret, just different form, text vs. Q/A. I know board and wards is excellent book, so you are smart in picking a right one at the beginning.

After two day's study, I feel like I will still stick to FA even though it is not that popular and will go through crush just once, add important concepts to my FA. So start from early next month, I will just read FA (hopefully total 4 times), and Qs. I believe practicing questions is more important.

Good luck to your preparation.smiling face

Neuroblastoma, one more thing to add to your plan. Qs everyday.

Dear journal, today I didn't do well. Too many distractions. I have to seclude myself once again now, just as I did for step 1. After a small party this coming Sunday, I have to enjoy lonely study.

Today just finish FA derm part. Did one block of Qs, not even finish that.

Tomorrow, have to begin my exercise plan, jogging at least 30min in the morning. Finish FA Endo, Epi and Ethics. 150Qs. gringrin

  #16

jogging is pretty good idea., but usually go for evening walk.. 30 minutes jogging makes me sleepy and hungry.

Goodluck with prep

I love your humor. grin But jogging in the morning works better for me. If I wait till evening, I feel like I want more time to study and would prefer to skip exercising.

So everyone is different, in every aspect. But we can reach the same goal by different means. Different way of exercising, but same goal to a strong body.

Good luck to you too.wink

Today did 100Qs on Endo. Just finish reading Endo part of FA using half day. The other half day used for kids new school registration and so on.
I just need to be more concentrated. Four months seems too short for an ADD like me. God will give me more strenghth and help me reach the goal.

  #19

u shall rock it !!! nod...... and ur speed is gr8 .... i usually do qs so slowly tht it takes me 3\4th of a day to solve 100 qs ....... keep it up !!!

Thanks, doc-shrutz. Actually I concentrate mainly on Qs cause it is the most efficient way for me to study. I gave up my fancy thought of reading through all those review books. I will just use FA.
Best of luck to you.smiling face

  #21

Just did 50Qs. Not finish GI of FA. Need to take off for several days to clear several things. Then fully concentrate on my step 2.

Dear journal, I will not visit you that often from now on. But I will work harder and try to accomplish my everyday goal. I believe hard work will pay off.gringrin

  #22

you'll do good. for you're going great and still have time at hand.
keep it up. any suggetstions on how to remember pediatrics milestones?

  #23

Thanks, Rudolph, for stopping by. You are right. I still have plenty of time and I need to make wise use of them.

Still didn't get there yet, but since you ask. I turned to that page and reviewed a little bit. If you are confused by year 2, 3 and 4, then just memorize year 3 very clearly, (tricycle for 3, three words for 3). Climb stairs with alternating feet for 3, then you will memorize 2 years walks up and down with help(can't alternating feet). 3 copies a circle, brush teeth and wash hands. If you are confused by 12mon, 15mon, 18mon, just memorize 15mon very clearly (walks backward, uses cup, 4-6words,temper tantrum), the other two will then go right.

Hope this won't confuse you more. Best of luck with your preparation. wink

Smalley, I am not an expert on the books. But from what I read in this forum, I guess Kaplan notes would be the best. Most people prefers that. Of course, there are some people used step-up, and blueprints, and they did fine too. Right now, for me, I won't read either of them cause I am short of time. And sadly, I am a slow reader and great distractor. Especially now, I am so worried about my step 1 score that I barely read anything this two weeks. shaking head

But I know what works better for me. So I will just try to memorize FA and do a lot of Qs and get familiar with them.

Best of luck with your preparation.smiling face
