My thoughts:
Daughter is requesting that you NOT TELL BAD NEWS, therefore the answer is C –Tell her it’s a legal requirement to tell the patient.
(However a better answer would have been to ask the daughter why doesn’t she want him to be informed of any bad news –is it dangerous, etc)
-If they were asking: DAUGHTER WANTS TO KNOW test results, then the answer would be B –Ask patient if he wishes to discuss his test results.

Your thoughts?

B nod

info should flow from the pt to the relatives.

  #4

I prefer B over C too

  #5

Both B and C could be right, given the situation....
However or this question, it isn't an issue of confidentiality, thats why I think B is wrong.

In this question it's a matter of "telling the patient the truth" so I still think it's C.

yeah, i agree although the the ethical notes tell us to go for B but given the situation, C seems more appropriate and practical besides at that given time u're not talking to the patient but the daughter....so i will go with c

I think it should be C but even B apperas quite probable.
What is the answer given?

  #8

There are no given answers. These are NBME Questions, and they want to torture us by not giving correct answers, only questions. smiling face

That's fine DrVirgo, but do they tell you what is the wrong answer? cos here the choice is either B or C.
