ok, so i thought this thread would benefit many newbies and many 'oldies' too. which is statistically the best way to approach a qn so as to maximise your chance of getting it right, and of doing it in time?no matter how much you prepare, you can never prepare enough for those darn distractors that they throw at us. 1] there is a school of though that says read the stem, close your eyes, think of the answer, look for it, mark it, move on. this is advocated by kaplan. many of us have heard it before, many of us have trained ourselves to practice it, too. but is it the best way? 2] some people say read the last sentence of the stem first, so you get an idea of what is being asked, then you can start your thinking process from there. this is to avoid wasting time in formulating a diagnosis which is provided later on anyway. [you also feel pissed/disappointed on being given the diag after you spent time arriving at it] 3] there's some folks who say start with the options, again so as to get a preview of what the qn wants from you. this works out to pretty much doing the qn backwards. the basic idea is to save time and energy, i guess. what are your thoughts? any more ideas out there? ultimately, you gotta do what suits you. but, by swapping ideas here, you may come across a method that suits you better. it could make the difference in your score. thanks.

For Me Mostly Reading the LAst Line Does Help a lot but when i m totally Clueless then the Combination of 2 and 1 does help me a lot. But i try to go for Diagnosis first so that i actually know whts being discussed and then eliminate the choices based on that knowledge of the Disease. Many Times due to overthinking i completely ruin my answer and find out that i shud have listened to my gut feeling. Thus I wud say sharpen ur instincts cos ur instincts r the only tool which u rely on during the exm. Cos Look at it realistically if u r stuck with a question for u have the remotest idea wht do u do Rely on that Inner feeling " this has to be it" now the Chances for that r 50/50 to swing either way so in order to improve ur odds Sharpen ur instincts so that u can change the odds into ur favor.

i like the second idea the 3 sometime may mislead u because ome answers will stick and will be baised toward it i think 2 is really good for long questions saves time 1 works after that when u read the stem .. or 4 short questions

Combo of 1 and 2. Am in the process of doing what NNL says, sharpening my instincts After doing a very humbling set of 7 blocks of 50 q's on UW, I found that when answering q's, I would always be in the right neighborhood, on the right street, in front of two houses seemingly identical houses, but will knock on the wrong door Example: Which one goes with the vestibule of bony labyrinth of the inner ear: can narrow choices to 2, 1. linear acceleration, 2. angular acceleration. I know it's an acceleration, just forget which, so I guess and go for choice 2. Of course, correct is choice 1 And this is why I scream
