Hi all, so i finished FA revision just a week ago and started questions for the very first time...im doing UW and after two blocks I have been getting ~25% because of a lack of knowledge of what the question is asking...the q's are go so much more in detail than I expected them to....also i had been pinning my hopes on the clinical slant i heard about....but they never ask from clinical aspect...its always the most detailed things they ask...going down to molecular level....
So Im asking you all....what should my plan of action be for the next few weeks?
i feel so flusterred because I dont need this right now, i have yet to revise RR path (i did 2x revisions of it 1.5 yrs back and havent looked at it since). As i said before I just recently finished my 2nd revision of first aid (my first revision was a 1.5 yrs ago). I have yet to do neuro ridic simple (did 2x revisions 1.5 yrs ago and havent looked at it since). And I have to do HY molec and cell bio for the very first time as well. I have not done kaplan because i really wanted to focus on FA, I read a bunch of seperate books and jotted down whatever I thought wasnt covered in FA during my first two yrs of med school.
So what do you guys think? I think i know my stuff very well cuz i made amazing mnemonics in FA, very hard to forget, and also have read step 2 secrets cover to cover (2x revisions - because of third year rotations) but it seems the clinical edge hasnt helped me with q's yet - im hoping the real exam will tho.
Hoping someone can help me, ive read a lot of great advice from awesome ppl on here but my situation is very unique so i hope they can still help me...

i think that u should continue doing questions coz that's the format of te exam
doing more revitions would be waste of ur time if ur problem is not knowing how to solve problems and not lacking the knowledge
u already get the knowlegde and i think ur problem is not knowing how to apply
so go on in doing questions
try to find out why u don't understand the question by looking at the explanations and understanding the hint of the question
as u go along u will understand which idea that comes to ur brain is the right one or how to think
it takes times and althought u started the questions late , which is a disadvantage, and many ppl will tellu qiut becoz u will get frustrated .. i still think u can improve in 2 weeks
most questions if not all are LEVEL 3 question
in which from the scenerio of the question or A PIC U HAVE TO KNOW THE DISEASE OR DRUG OR PROCESS THEN THE QUESTION IS ABOUT SOMETHING RELATED TO IT WITHOUT TELLING U THE NAME OF the disease
its ur god to find the link, to know the disease then to answer the RELATED question (2 steps!)
this is a simple analysis of the question !
so go on, u can do it

From the trends i have been seeing with my friends and people on this forum, u DEFINITELY should take a NBME exam to see where u r. especially since u said you are going to be taking your exam in 2.5 weeks. Maybe start off with Form 1, people say it is supposed to be the "easiest". Not sure if that's true, but i think it will most probably tell u what u need to work on.
Seems like u definitely have the knowledge after all the hard work you have put in so far, now just have to work on recalling it and applying on a test!
i am actually struggling with my own prep, so my words don't carry that much weight. but i am definitely good at dishing out advice!

Well right now, im just getting used to applying all the knowledge...previously i had just focused on knowing! So i think after a few more blocks of UW, I'll give nbme a shot...and then ill do some more UW, revise FA and goljan...give another nbme....im hoping that I can do all this before next weekend starts! Because next weekend, i have to do HY cell and molecular plus neuro ridic simple!

i was gonna say the same.. i agree on ur diecision about doing the nbme after some UW question
but careful about doing HY molecular and neuro rediciously simple .. if the take long time , while ur score still needs more improvement, i think u have to sucrifise and leave them and focus on information in FA and UW about these topic then do a quick scan over then to get what ever u didn't understand from the previous 2
this is becoz applying what u already have in mind is much more imp then getting new knowledge
but if u think u'r fine with applying net week then it up to u to decide

Thanks angel doc....u definitely give some gd advice...man i wish i had u as a study partner! are u in ny by any chance lol?
btw the FA im using is 2003...do u know what major stuff i need to look at in the current edition, im thinking of just swinging by B&N and quickly browsing the 2007 edition!

i got FA 2005 and i checked 2007 it it has some additional stuff, perhaps u can go after u finish over it to see the additional stuff

Basha, If UW is showing that you are consistently weak on one subject or topic, then it might be a good idea to go back to review it really quickly, to increase your knowledge in that area. I also think you can improve a lot in 2 weeks, so keep up the hard work! Best of lucks!
