Metabolic alkalaosis is divided into chloride responsisve and chloride resistant forms. I don't really understand what this means. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Also, according to First Aid: Medicine. Laxative abuse can cause a metabolic alkalosis. Is this correct? I thought the contents of the small intestine were mostly basic/neutral (from the bicarb released by the pancreas)
