okay please no one laugh at me, this is the dumbest question i am sure you allllllllll know, found out once you started usmle, omg i am dumb but. okay. what kind of questions are asked? not oh give me your previous questions though that would be greatly appreciated lol. but what is the format the style exmample. i am doing microbiology from micro made simple/kaplan. i notice they all stress the clinicals and thats all really, and the structure, not reli the patho of the organisms. i dont rally memorize the pathogenesis, but i would know def the way it is transmitted, what clnical signs u see n the treatment. is that sufficient? i know usmle isnt easy, and they won come out and give you some symptoms n say waht disease it is. but how is it? is it just liek usmle world styl, where while readin the question u must figure out the disease and agent, and then,,,,,, use that to answer the question, based on what drug is good or the structure, or the patho or whatever. meaning when you read fa or kaplan how do you study it? i was taking to heart to know every sign and symptom for micro diseass and i will excel in micro. but now i wonder is that how the boards even ask you. am i one step behind

i dont think kaplan notes and qbook questions resemble the final exam ones. i havent seen kaplan qbank i think UW resembles final exam (though i still have to take it, it did in step 2ck which i have done) also u can get an idea from the usmle cd. though the cd is supposed to be very simple as compared to the final.

if UW resembles the actual USMLE 1 then i don't like it - every questions is presented as a clinical case.

come on!i have never really agreed with people who say that the actual exam is like UW.i dont know abt step2.i have yet to take it.the exam questions are pretty much like the Qbook, moderately difficult.ofcourse everyone gets their share of difficult and out of the box questions but the general lay-out of the exam is quite similar to the Qbank and the Qbook.

I just took it. I think uw is over emphasized, over publicised and over recommended. Few of it concepts are on the real test and yes it DOESN'T resemble the real thing. I would say NBME could be around 80% of the real thing. So be comfortable with UW low scores they are meant for knowledge basically.

hi there thanks for the responses much appreciated i am asking more towards,,, will they give you symptoms and lab notes, and you determine the disease. or you get that, they ask you someothing about the disease's treatment or mechanism, etc . like iS it always going to be one step beyond that?! like right now if i can recognize the disease by the symptoms, is that great, or i need to go out of htat box-and that is what will be tested. i dont remember goljan exactly, but he used to say something about "the name of the game" i dont remember if he said, you need to be able to know the disease, or why, or why not etc.

"mechanisms" the name of the game. i would be comfortable if i can recognize what disease the question is dealing with the given symptoms and what is the pathophysiology of the disease.
