I am an old IMG. It is difficult getting a letter from the dean because the records are old. Is it absolutely nessecary to give a Deans Letter/MSPE for ERAS application?

No. You can use your dean's letter.

BBB, I dont have a deans letter. I have only a letter stating that I was a bonafide student of the college between _and_ months and my scores at various exams during my college was ___ signed by the dean. Is that what a dean's letter is

Are you saying your school doesnt preserve records past a certain date? Or that they'll have to work hard to pull them out, hence taking a significant amount of time? Have you already asked your school for a Deans letter? Make sure you send them a full CV, because the letter will, to some degree, be based around that. And the earlier you ask them, the more time they have. Make sure you keep in touch with them, and keep politely reminding them. If I'm not mistaken, the Deans letter is now also required to be written following a strict pattern. You should be able to find this information on the internet.

I have read the format. It is basically for US med schools. In India nobody gets that kind of letter. Also the ERAS still has to forward the application even if you dont have the Dean's Letter. This is what I could get after research on the net. Here are a few discussions. Somebody please confirm whether I am correct. http://www.imgforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=297&h... http://www.imgforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=180&h... http://www.imgforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=108&h...

You are right Hotobhaga. Although it might help with your applications, it´s not absolutely necesary to have a MSPE or Dean´s letter. When your filling out CAF at ERAS, they ask you if your medical school is gonna send the MSPE, if you say no, ECFMG (which is like IMG´s Dean´s office), puts a letter in the application explaining that you won´t send it.
