Osteomyelitis and Septic arthritis in a child? I think these are the common features for confusion! *Both can occur following pharyngitis-hAEMATOGENOUS SPREAD *Both have increased WBC, ESR *Both have decreased range of motion and local inflammation How to differentiate these two? Osteomyelitis patients are NOT as sick as septic arthritis--That is the only difference I can think of?!Suggestions please!

effusion in septic arthritis, (swelling), plus arthrocentesis will show characteristic changes, and then using imaging techniques to differentiate.
