Guys I dont know how many of you have had a experience liek this but anyone who know's anything please leave a input......
I cleared my Step 1 step 2 CK and CS but the porblem was verification of my medical school credentials.
I had sent it a year ago but didnt follow it up. Finally I had it sent again for the third time this july by courrier and they still kept saying they hadn't recieved it and I gave them a tracking number after which they said they did.
I was planing to give step 3 too but when I called them they said it takes 8 to 10 weeks to verify and get certified and if thats right I will miss the sept 4 deadline for applying for the step 3.
Guys does it really take this long or do they usually send it before that.
Also if it come's to giving the exam next year when should I give it by so that the result arrives before the match day...
Any input will be appreciated,

I had the same experience!!! I sent my diploma to the ECFMG in mid December of 2006. By that time I had only Step 2 CS cleared. 2 months later I applied for Step 2ck and also called the ECFMG to see what the progress is...to find out they received it but did not send it over to my med school in Europe yet?! When I asked why the answer I got was that they were waiting for me to apply fo a step. Now this did not seem logical to me, but I accepted it- it was February and I said ok, there is still plenty of time. And then the horror trip began- they did send it in early March. Received it back from the university in early April and I found out at the end of May that ECFMG was missing something and have to re-send it again.When I asked them why they were informing me so late- it takes 6-8 weeks processing time.Period. This is when I got scared. I called the university myself, warned them, explained the purpose of it and thank God, the secretary was nice and promised to help me. So ECFMG sent it over once again and received it back in mid June. I tried calling several times after 4 weeks passed but I got the same firm answer- 6-8 weeks. Just yesterday I found out that everything is ok. But imagine- they had the diploma since December last year!!!Add a mistake or two on your university part and there we have July-August already...
My advise would be to stay on topf of this- both with the ECFMG and your university!!! If you can call the secretary of the dean and warn her, explain that the issue is very time sensitive. In my case she was so nice- she even sent me a copy of the verification form they sent ot ECFMG the second time. It is not a rocket science, they just have to fill out that form(ECFMG has forms in all kinds of languages and usually sends the form in the appropriate language to the dean- so the secretary even doesn't have to know English)- date of when the diploma was issued, medical degree, verify the copy of the diploma, check some boxes if you had legal issues etc, add your med school transcript...So may e this will help if you explain it in advance.
As for Step 3- I don't know...hopefully somebody will be able to give you an advise you with this.

Hey, well thanks for the input....... Good that's it's over for you but I am still waiting for myne to be accepted. It kinda is silly that it takes 8 -10 weeks for them to just look at the document unless they have some mandatory wait period. Also if there's sometin missing then it's gonna repeat the whole thing again. IT makes things especially tight coz it wasnt suppose to be like this and I was suppose to be certified when I applied. oh well just pray and hope for the best.

I've registered for Step 3 and sent them the document they ask you to sign and attach a 2x2 photo and my registration was complete in 4 business days. Now I am just waiting for my permit to schedule the exam. So this info of 8-10 week waiting is not true (unless you'll take a long period of time to send them this paper or you have problems with mailing it).

Are we all talking about the same thing? I thought Zygone is waiting for the verification of her diploma by ECFMG...This takes 6-8 week AFTER they send it over to your old university AND receive it back from them. So if Zygone has just sent the diploma to ECFMG it will take even more- because they have to send it to the univeristy first and wait for a reply(with me just this part took 1 month and then 6-8 weeks for verification by ECFMG)... But if there is a way to apply for step 3 without the certificate- did you call to find out?

Well they sent it to the university and they have recieved it back after my university verified it. I have already passed the required all the steps. how long does it take for them to issue a certificate once they recieve the verified document from the medical school

well if it does take 6 to 8 weeks for verification then i definitly am not gonna make the 4 sept deadline.

Well, I don't know wehn ECFMG received it back from your university, but yes- at least 6 weeks from then you are going to have a definitive answer...Once the ECFMG has verified it they will issue the certificate automatically- and it should be mailed to you within 2 weeks. I know that somebody actually received his certificate before the score report of his last exam- because they FedEx it.
But I would still recommend you to stay on top of everything and call them - just to make sure, esp. after 6 weeks.

hmmm well will do that but it is kinda demoralising for giving the step 3. I mean dedlines for the year 2007 is sept 4 and I sure am not gonna be certified before that. will have to give it by 2008 and that too sure am not gonna get the results by the programs deadline...........

Why don't you call the ECFMG and see if you have any other option...You have very solid scores - you are still very competitive!

Yes, this is the only way, you got to have the certificate before you apply for step 3. Verification of credentials is always a tricky issue and there many aspects of it which can cause delays. Generally in India, govt. institutions have very lazy management and it is the responsibility of students to make sure the clerks at the college handle your case in a timely manner. When my documents were recieved by our college from ECFMG, I took them from the clerk, had them signed by the principal, then had the clerk put the seal on both the document and envelope and then mailed everything back to ECFMG myself. Although this is slightly unacceptable according to ECFMG policies as graduates or students should not be involved in the verification process, but we cannot take chances.

it is toally wrong that you are getting involved personally in handling those ecfmg verification letters..
just make it sure the the college does it on its own..( beg,call)..
thats the one main reason ECFMG getting more strict day by day about letters and verification as studnets are doing it on there own...be carefull

no no no guys, the college has sent it to ECFMG. I had nothing to do with it. I was wondering how much time it takes for the ECFMG to issuse me a certificate once they get the VERIFIED documents from my medical school. I wanted to be certified before the opening of the post office

u get certified the same day if not the next day when follwing is done in your OASIS ( you may get the certificate in mail in a week, depending whther u r in US or not)
1) your medical ceditentials certified.
2) step 1, step 2 CK and CS scores are reported and you are passed.
suppose that happens on sep 1..it means..ECFMG will transmit that you are ECFMG certified on sep 1 to the programs that you had applied..

Well if you are applying for the Step 3 exam, read the Step 3 infrmation bulletin everything's given there. You'll get a good idea.
