A study is designed to compare a new medication for Crohn disease with a standard medication. Each of 50 Crohn disease pts is allowed to decide which of these two treatment groups to join. The major reason that the results of this study may not be valid is because of

Selection bias
Recall bias
Sampling bias
Differences in the sizes of the two groups
The small number of pts in the study

Answer is selection bias.
Refer BRS BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE 4TH EDITION PAGE 246-247.

why not a selection bias? HY mentions that selection bias can occur if subject is allowed to choose drug or placebo. Sampling bias occurs when factors unrelated to the aim of the study distinguish the subject from the rest of the population.

Kaplan mentions both of them together. Someone please clear it up for me.

this question is BS, in the literature there is no distinction between selection and sampling bias.

First i think question is not well made...Still answer can be Selection bias.. but then looking literly at this question u think small number of patients would mean study is weak!
