This post is for everyone whose preparations just aren't going the way they planned. I started reading in Nov last year, off and on for a couple of hours a day. I didn't start anything serious until after I did NBME form 1 (2/1/07) and got 430(201). I then concentrated mainly on the kaplan notes (only read a few) and UW in tutor mode. I cant remember my UW score but it was somewhere b/w 55-60%. I did NBME form 2 (2/26/07) and got 550(230). I felt really good about it and I set my exam date for the first week in April. Thats when everything fell apart.

I didn't read throughout the whole of March. When I was I was finally able to start up again, I took NBME form 3 (end of April) and I got something like 220. I had to change tactics. I decided to concentrate on FA and step up along with UW (I started it over again). But the distractions kept on coming. During that period I had to relocate to another city, and obviously change jobs. I spent over a month house hunting (I didn't move into my own place till 2wks before the exam). All the while I was barely reading.

Two weeks before my exam (I postponed the date about 4 times), I finally settled down. I was near the end of my eligibility period and so I knew it was now or never. I switched tactics again. I decided to concentrate only on FA and Goljan notes (systemic and general). I also did the kaplan Qbook. My subscription for UW had run out for the second time so I had to give it up (I never actually finished). I read both goljan notes once and FA twice in that 2wk period.

The afternoon before the exam, I did the NBME 4. I was initially relectant to do it in case I got a bad score and I wanted to keep a postive attitude before the exam. I did it anyway and my worst fears came true, my score was 520(224). I had my heart set on a 99. It was the day before and there was no going back so I decided to just forget my NBME scores and give the exam everything I had. I guess it paid off.

So, to everyone who is having a rough time out there, just trust God and believe in yourself. As the saying goes: Its not over till its over.

Cheers.
