She has mitral stenosis… Why is there an opening snap in S2?
What is increased? Why
B. Diastolic filling time.
E. increased pulmonary artery pressure due to the long standing MS now going into failure.. The rt ventricular heave supports the diagnosis.

My answer is E. increased PAP.

I don't know why the question states there is a loud opening snap in S2. I thought it's loud opening snap in S1.

Mitral Stenosis is a problem with the valve opening. It opens before diastole- filling. so there will be an opening snap at S2.

in MS does diastolic filling time increase? (choice B)? Please explain. thanks.

Basically, I understand why E is right, but I'm not sure if B is completely wrong.

Mitral stenosis -> heart failure -> tachycardiac -> decrease diastolic filling time-> B is wrong!

  #9

Dr Virgo, you are right. Opening snap in S2.

If the mitral valve is stenosed and narrowed, won't it take longer to open, thus it will take longer to fill the LV, so diastolic filling time will be INCREASED? Choice B??
