as far as I know: externship: hands-on clinical experience (equals the regular AMS rotation) sub-internship: you are even allowed to write orders, which are co-signed by resident/physician. AMS usually do it in their last year of med school, towards the end. in terms of which one is better- I think the sub-internship, gives you more autonomy. If you are a graduate both a equally very hard to find( graduates without license are kind of in the gray zone- not a student in training anymore but also not a physician). If you are still a student- fight fo an externship, it works, just takes a lot of time and phone calls.
