What is the first step of management for a pt presents with s/s of normal pressure hydrocephalus??? there are conflicts bw UW, kaplan and Fischr.. 1) Brain CT 2) Lumbar puncture 3) or Physicals?

1st physical to check for neuro defecits..ESP EYE EXAM FOR PAPILLEDEMA 2nd CT if papilledema is +Ve (if papilledema is +ve from start--> CT is next) or lumbar punct if negative.. hope that helps

If NPH is suspicious i.e pt presenting w/ urinary incontinence, gait problem, and dementia, proceed to CT/MRI for definitive diagnosis. Lumbar puncture could be used for diagnosis if CT/MRI negative but high suspicion for NPH

agree w/ both of them P/E is always 1st, as we do it easily, cheap in any setting Then as aid before Pt presenting w sign of ICP - CT/MRI prefferd over LP, if not then go to LP after P/E is done
