Hi,
I'm an old IMG (>10years). I want to participate in 2008's match. My scores are 92/88/waiting for CS result (all first attempt). I did OB/GYN resident for three years back my home country, and had Ph.D degree in US with several publications (some of them are good journals, and also held a post-doctoral fellowship). I'll do observation with a local OB/GYN doctor in August, and in September, I'll do another observation in the university 's OB/GYN department. My research is also OB/GYN related, and I have green card.
I definitely will apply Ob/GYN residency nation wide on different levels. My question is: do I need to apply another specialty, like FM as backup? If yes, which kind of program I should apply? How to convince PD in FM that I seriously consider it. I’m personally interest in OB/GYN, but if I match to a FM, it’s acceptable. I really want to succeed on match next year. Any input will be highly appreciated!

Hey there!
You are a very strong candidate for ObGyn. I believe ObGyn should not be a problem for you. If still you are not sure about the match stuff and wish to apply to FM, it should be ok. If the FM PD likes you very much, he/she would definitely rank you high.
The only problem I see is your year of graduation, which makes you little bit restricted to programs which do not have any special/strict criteria of graduation.

hi!
i'm an IMG and hoping to get matched in OB prog this 2008. my USMLE scores are 88/85 (first attempt) and scheduled to take CS on Sept. 21, I graduated from medical school in 2006, with no US clinical experience, nor publications. i became a research assistant in Urology for a few months and moonlighted as retainer physician in various HMOs in my home country but not exactly Ob-related.
what do you think are my chances of getting matched?
how many programs do i need to apply to? so far i;ve got 26 on my list (those who don't require USCE and ECGMG upon application)
i plan to apply to FM as back-up, do you think i should let go of my hopes of getting into an OB prog and pursue FM instead, given my situation???
