Guys i need your advice. I know many of you have the same credentials as mine so lets discuss how to apply effectively. - Neurology is my first choice but i only want Categorical program. Applying to Prem im along with advanced neuro will really be just too much.
- Can i apply to an IM programs both Preliminary and Categorical and pay just onetime. If yes, then how would i explain to them why i did that?
- Feels kind of same about Psych, Path no preference.
- If i get IM, I want program that has fellowship opportunity.
- So i am applying to neuro, Im, psych, path in NY, NJ, Tx, Ct, PA, Va, MD. Dc.
- Since there are so many programs i want to narrow down the programs list such that i wouldnt wanna apply to a program where i dont stand a chance.
- I will apply to the same hospitals different departments. Is that going to be a bad mistake?
My credentials, 92/94 yr of grad 2001-2002(finished exam 2001-degree issued 2002), 2 USLOR, Usce = few hrs at free clinic for 4 months, few months at PVT physician associated with a pvt hospital. I ahve a GC. If i get lucky i might get some REal hospital Externship in Aug. BAsed on all this i need advice. I know many of you are thinking the same, so lets get together and discuss!

@ sarika,, - Neurology is my first choice but i only want Categorical program. Applying to Prem im along with advanced neuro will really be just too much.
it is a bit complicated...even if u get neuro..there are many places who dont give u IM for 1yr - Can i apply to an IM programs both Preliminary and Categorical and pay just onetime. If yes, then how would i explain to them why i did that?
i didnt understand the Q - Feels kind of same about Psych, Path no preference.
path is a bit tough...beleive me.. - If i get IM, I want program that has fellowship opportunity.
thats what everyone is aiming on.. - So i am applying to neuro, Im, psych, path in NY, NJ, Tx, Ct, PA, Va, MD. Dc.
those are some tough areas ..but the good thing is IMG friendly and a lot of avaliable positions...go for it.. - Since there are so many programs i want to narrow down the programs list such that i wouldnt wanna apply to a program where i dont stand a chance.
u have to do a hell lot research for that....myplan is the same..i m taking time - I will apply to the same hospitals different departments. Is that going to be a bad mistake?
no way... hope this helps.

Can i apply to an IM programs both Preliminary and Categorical and pay just onetime. If yes, then how would i explain to them why i did that? what i mean here is i saw many programs that have both Prelim IM and Categ IM. when you select the program, it asks you to check the box next to Prel and/or categ. If i select both, does that count as one application or two?

As far as i know, it counts as one application only (you pay once). You save money this way, but some say PD may not like this( what is your goal??). while others say it does not matter, so up to you to make this decision! Most of neuro programs are advanced programs, it sucks.
