Gemfibrozil increases the activity of Lipoprotein Lipase in the Adipose Tissue and causes VLDL clearance from the blood stream. Indications: hypertriglyceridemia (VLDL predominates) Side Effects: Skin rash; rhabdomyolysis (when used w/HMG CoA reductase inhibitors)

u're right Bela, also just to add: it's not useful in type 1 hyperlipidemia -useful in treating types 3, 4, and 5 hyperlipidemia SE can also include gall stones along w/ ones mentioned above.
