hi all,
i just gave my CS exam last week in chicago.i used UW and FA and these two are more than enough.
the exam was pretty straight forward with the SP's posing the routine challenges as given in UW and FA and asking you the routine questions but trust me even after practicing so much i made mistakes and i dont know how bad they were and if i dont make it thru because of them.
i forgot to counsel half of the patients...could not finish in time for 2 patients...i felt the time is just enough so guyz practice hard as 15 mins is not too much time at all. for one of the patients i was doing the abd examination and i forgot to pull out the foot rest...ya go on and have a laugh buddies smiling face

...even i did after i realised what i had done.that was not good. but for the other 4 patients i did not forget it again.
you probably will not encounter anything outlandish...it will be mostly routine but just practice all the routine stuff really well and thats what they want to test you on-the basics.
i hope i get thru with this exam so that i can apply for the next match.

ps:one good thing to do would be to do a case just before your exam so that you get in the groove. i have heard this from many people and i faced it too-that they take time to get in the groove and that on the 1st case most usually dont do too well. so i guess it would be a good idea to practice a case just before the exam. i wish i had thought of this sooner.

Best of luck Rock and thanks for sharing with us your experience. My exam is august 8th in Chicago and basically i am using UW and FA. I am glad to know that they cover the exam or at least is enough.

To practice routine staff sounds like music to me.
Where did you stay and how much did you pay for it?

i stayed at wyndham chicago o'hare first...i would say avoid it...i later changed to marriot which is the better place.did not try ramada but it looks like a good brand name so must be good.all three are close to the exam centre.

what do you mean the foot rest? forgive my stupidity but why should you pull out the foot rest while doing the ab??

Next time you do an abd exam without pulling out the foot rest.. take a look at your patient's legs/feet. You'll answer your own question.

hi hotobhaga, i practiced for a month with a friend about 4-5 hrs a day. we did timed cases.

...it is such a good feeling to be done with yet another usmle exam and now just one more(the step 1) to go for me.
