19. ARE THERE SPECIFIC USMLE/COMLEX SCORE “CUTOFFS?”<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />

No, but we generally look for candidates whose scores are at least “average.” For example, a USMLE score of 80 is usually about the average mark for any given year.

20. IS THERE A SPECIFIC GRADUATION YEAR “CUTOFF?”

There is no specific cutoff for your graduation year. However, we prefer candidates who have recently (within 2 years) graduated from or are currently in medical school or graduate medical training. Those candidates that have completed medical school or other form of training AND are currently in FULL-TIME clinical practice are also eligible for application.

21. IS USA EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUTES?

No, but it is very favorable to have this experience. A letter of recommendation from the site is required for us to include this in your application.

22. DO OBSERVERSHIPS COUNT TOWARDS USA EXPERIENCE?

Yes.

23. DO YOU OFFER OBSERVERSHIPS OR EXTERNSHIPS?

No.

I wont apply to this one because i think they wont consider anyone >2 yrs away from grad.

Internal Medicine Residency Training Program

Thank you for your interest in our Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at Westchester Medical Center, the University Hospital and major academic medical center of New York Medical College. Our program is ACGME accredited and all applicant selection is done through NRMP.

Criteria for applicants:

Applications are accepted through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System) only. Application deadline is December 17th. We are looking for applicants who are not more than 5 years out of medical school. You must have taken and passed the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 with scores of 87 or above. You will need at least 2 current letters of recommendation. International Medical Graduates should obtain sponsorship for their visas through ECFMG for J-1. The program sponsors J-1 and will consider H-1 on a case by case basis. Anyone applying for an H-1 must have taken and passed step 3 of the USMLE by match day. US clinical experience is preferred, but not required. Interviews will take place from November – through the end of January.

More detailed information about our residency program can be found at the following website: http://www.nymc.edu/depthome/academic/medicine/di...
