Our minimum requirements for consideration to be interviewed are as follows:
All applicants must have their credentials verified by ECFMG and should be ECFMG certified to be considered for an interview. This is absolutely required to maintain the integrity of the interview process and to comply with Federal and State legal requirements.
Medical School Transcript/ Dean’s Letter and 3 (THREE) additional letters of recommendation prior to consideration for an interview. The three letters of recommendations should be written by persons with whom you have worked with or who have been your teachers. Letters of recommendations from Family and Friends are NO longer acceptable. Also not acceptable are letters of recommendations written by Physicians you have done externship with unless this is from an Institution and the writer is not your family or friend.
Please note all documents will be Primary Source Verified as required by the Health and Hospitals Corporation of New York City, and any discrepancies will be reported to Credentialing and Licensing agencies and the ECFMG.
We no longer sponsor visas. We accept Permanent Residents, US citizens and applicants with a valid Employment Authorization to work in the U.S. with a pending I-485 application.
No U.S. clinical experience or prior training is required.
Applicants should have superior communication skills in English, as well as excellent inter-personal skills. Irrespective of academic credentials communication skills in English is an absolute requirement as this impacts patient care and transfer of vital information.
For applicants having advanced degrees in INTERNAL MEDICINE (i.e. M.D.-Internal Medicine or MRCP • Internal Medicine), the Medical School graduation may be considered up to year 2000.
All applicants should have a high proficiency in accessing the internet and have the ability to complete web based evaluations and should have excellent skills to access and communicate via e-mail. The Internal Medicine Residency Program at

I think i missed these two lines.
USMLE Step 1 and 2 (CS and CK) completion with a score of 87 and above in each step. Each step MUST BE TAKEN ONE TIME ONLY. If you have taken USMLE Step 3, a pass in the first attempt is required

We are looking for the most recent graduates (within five years of graduation) with passing scores of 75 or higher on first attempts of USMLE step I and II. Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center (United Health Services) Program

All other International Medical Graduates are expected to meet the following application criteria:
- Have graduated medical school since 2002
- Score a minimum of 80 (two digit score) on both Steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE as a first time pass
- Have applied for and received or are soon to receive ECFMG certification
- US clinical experience is not a requirement for acceptance into the Wilson Residency Programs but will be viewed positively in the application review process
While Wilson will occasionally grant J1 and H1B visas, preference will be given to US citizens and US permanent residents

This one is out the door too.
The following documentation, at a minimum, is required for a residency program at Winthrop-University Hospital: Ny - Certification of graduation from any accredited medical school or ECFMG certified medical institution. This documentation must originate from the academic institution granting the degree and have the proper seal of the institution.
- Letters of recommendation.
- Documentation accounting for any lapses between the end of medical school and the present.
- Proper documentation of employment and/or work performed since graduation from medical school.
- USMLE or COMLEX board scores demonstrating successful completion.

Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in our Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Everyone is welcome to apply to our program using the ERAS application process; however, because of the number of applications we receive, in addition to only accepting applications through ERAS, we have some initial criteria/guidelines when applying to our program:
Year of Graduation from Medical School: between 2001-2005
Visa: we only sponsor J1 visas
Clinical Experience: not required
USMLE: passage of both Steps 1 and 2 (no minimum score requirement)
Preliminary positions: these are only for applicants who match with UR Neurology
Letters of Recommendation: Chairman?s letter but 2 additional letters of recommendation
Observer ships: are not offered through our program
Deadline for all information: December 15th.
If after we have received your application and we wish to have you come for an interview, an email invitation will be sent to you. Interviews are set up from mid-November through mid-January. Please do not call to set up an appointment as this is not handled with the main office staff and is only processed through email.

Application Information
- Applications are processed through ERAS only.
- The deadline for applications is January 15.
- Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the past 2 years.
- USMLE scores are considered individually, but the following may be helpful:
- Candidates who have failed any Step on multiple occasions will usually not be considered.
- Candidates generally must have a score in the 80th percentile or greater.
- It is advantageous to have scores for Step 1 and 2 available by late January.
- If your medical school requires that you pass Step 2 in order to graduate, that score must be available prior to the deadline for NRMP ranking.
- Step 2 CS is required if the candidate’s medical school requires it.
- Transcript and Dean’s letter are very important for ranking, but may not be necessary for an invitation to interview.
- VISA’s are generally not supported by the Department of Medicine.
- Interviews are held in November, December and January.
- Interviews are arranged by e-mail invitation only.
- Observerships are generally not offered.

We will begin to accept Applications for the 2008 class through ERAS on September 2007. We require 3 LOR. We review dean's letter, transcript, USMLE scores etc. We accept H1 & J1 Visas. If you are an IMG, you’re required to be ECFMG certified. We do not have minimum score requirements, however, we do look at number of attempts. We do not require US clinical experience, but it is favorable. We prefer recent graduates, however, we will consider 3 yrs from date of graduation with clinical experience. In all, we review the application in its entirety. We do not accept paper applications. We do not offer Prematches. All applications are accepted through ERAS. These are answers to most frequently asked questions regarding our Internal Medicine Residency Training Program.
1. USMLE/COMLEX scores in the mid 80’s [first attempt]. USMLE scores accepted for interviews last year were in the upper 80’s for both parts 1 and 2 for categorical positions and average USMLE scores of 80 and above for preliminary positions [preliminary positions are strictly for candidates going into another discipline of medicine].
2. If you are not a US citizen or permanent resident, we will accept J-1 visa or employment authorization. [May sponsor H-1 visa for a candidate with exceptional scores and/or completed 3 yrs of Internal Medicine residency training abroad]. Also note H1 sponsorship is not given every year. We will accept 0-1 visa for preliminary candidates.
3. Your application is complete when you fulfill the requirements of #8.
4. We do not mail our brochure, you can view it on our website:
mssm.edu/gme/hospitals/queens_internalmed.shtml.
5. Application deadline is the first 1,000 applicants or October 30th which ever comes first. It is helpful if we receive your complete application package by November 1 because it gives the committee ample time to review your applications.
6. U.S. clinical experience though not required is helpful [observerships do not count as clinical experience].

8. In order to apply you must submit:
·Dean’s letter
·Department of Medicine Letter
·Three additional letters of recommendation from a physician who directly supervised you [preferably within 6 months].

9. We prefer candidates who graduated medical school within the last five years.
10. We offer 6 preliminary and 15 categorical positions.
11. We have a large percent of international medical graduates in our program. The categorical positions are usually filled by IMG’s and the preliminary positions by AMG’s.
12. Our interview session starts 2nd week of November and ends mid January. Interviews are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday only. No interviews will be scheduled on the following holidays – Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas week through January 1 and Martin Luther King’s birthday.
13. Queens Hospital Center is a community-based hospital with university sponsor-ship of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
14. A committee reviews the applications to determine if an interview will be granted. Due to the volume of applications received we will not be able to interview all applicants. Approximately 5-10 percent of applications received will be selected for interview.
15. We will only review applications submitted via ERAS.

19. Pre-match positions are offered occasionally.
20. For international medical graduates, ECFMG certification is not required prior to interview but both Step 1 and Step 2CK are required. USMLE step 2 CS result is required by mid January. All requirements for ECFMG certification must be available by mid March.
21. We do not offer an observership/externship program to medical school graduates.
22. In regards to couples, we do have couples in our program but they both have to meet our requirements. We do not interview a candidate just because they are part of a couple.
23. We do have housing or give a housing stipend.

Each application is individually reviewed and all criteria will be considered (medical school grades,letters of recommendation, Dean's letter, and of course USMLE scores, etc.)
US clinical experience is not required. We do not offer observerships or Internships in our Department.
If you meet our criteria you will be contacted via e-mail and invited for a personal interview. If you do not meet our criteria, you will be sent a rejection e-mail and your ERA file will be deleted from our Program.
Our application deadline is January 31, we will however, extend the deadline for a few more weeks. GOOD LUCK……………….
