I need to start like a donkey as soon as i can.But feelings of hopelessness are in my way. What should i do ?After 6 months of hard study and score sof 570 in Nbbme i just got 77 in step one. What will happen in step 2 ck.I really need high scores to get residency of my choice or good university programme, may be i need a study partner.I have a toddler around and i have to follow him every where and this is the worst age of kids.
I left my little daughter with my mom for the sake of these studies,ut i just feel guilty and doing nothing as soon as is start i feel i know everything but scores made me feel aweful. There is so much going on in my life what should i do?
Now i have started keeping this journal to motivate myself to study whatever the circumstances will e and hopefully Allah gonna help me.
I am planning to end Git today, while my baby opened his diaper and peeon the carpet also his now throwing water on carpet.God i have to cook too.

I did just one and half lecture of Im but many things i had to do, bought a car today. So one thing is done and now i will have more concentration on my studies.I should do it coz i can do it.Remember good things about you don't feel depress .Think how your seniors use to say we havenot seen any one like dr pearl working on patients, those patients who use to say thanks to me that they got pregnant and have kids, how i saved people to not abort their kids and God gonna help them.Think good i am good and i will make difference. I know i have to take care of too much stuff but i'll get residency in deire field, and step one score not gonna discourage me.I'll make more concepts and more by understanding this material and i can do it in two months Inshallah.

  #13

yaar i have to do rhematology and cardio today Give one reading and listen to dvds as much as you can. That's it .Just downloading all videos on my ipod and listen while laying down or doing nothing coz nothing gonna help you except studying. This is the last exam you have to take keep going.Write down the plan and go for it, don't be lazy, stay ambitious.Every body can do it , so do it. So heads up.

  #14

I am not doing much i just did hardly one lecture conard fisher and one lecture obgyn, just talked to my friend who is taking csa and disscussed the cases i got.I do not know what to do right now i had to cook also and now i am so tired.I have talked to one resident's mom how lucky are they and why i am not lucky. I am frustrated again.I am losing hope. When will is study without any probblem or anything in my life. When there will be no hardships and i can focus. I wanna cry out.I have to be done with ck with good scores and i know i can do it but why not i am doing it.I wasted so much time and at this time i don't even have energy for offering prayer.Every one is happy but i am not.

Now onwards I'll not waste time in surfing net, no craiglist, cooking on weekend and i'll study like an Md, yeah i would.I need to make my dreams come true and have to work hard, no body can help except Allah and your own hard work, find solutions to these prolems and give your ebdest shot watch dvds make notes do usmle world, get up no time wasting.

Don't let guilty get the best of you. Your kids need you to be happy for them to be happy, too.

I am praying for you, you can do it! Step 2 is much more interesting to study for then step 1.

Arlete, congrats for such a big accomplishment, can you please guide me how you managed to study with kids and stuff.i wish you real goodluck with residency.

yaar whenever you stop by just kick me to get started so i f should orget everything and study as hard as possible.

  #22

drpearl:

I think you have to learn how to study in small intervals, rather than having to sit for hours to do it. If you have 15 minutes while in the doctor's waiting room, study. If the kid and husband are sleeping and you don't feel like it, study, even if for 10 minutes. Long line at the grocery store? Study. I carried flascards with me everywhere. Any little amount of time was not wasted. I think that helped.

Thats a wonderful piece of advice arlete. I was always wondering that we can never get long hours to study with kids and family , and its really difficult to concentrate in small chunks of time one gets. But you are right ..we shd learn to do so.....no other choice. Thnaks a lot. Good luck for future. and good luck drpearl!!!

  #24

dear drpearl,

i think you're a lady of immense strength. i read your posts, and it's easy to see that your road seems long and hard. but i just want to tell you that nothing NOTHING that is good in this life comes easy. nothing that comes easy is worth having.

when you get overwhelmed, think of yourself as a happy resident, and years later as an attending, maybe even higher. isn't that what you are doing all this for? you cannot achieve any of those in one big step. you can only get there by many many many small steps. small steps like each reading session, each qn block on uw, each revision, each sleepless night, each time you finish cooking in a hurry so you can get back to your books........

all these difficulties is for your babies. who else!! isn't it worth winning this, only to see a better future for them? if you have them in your heart, as you do right now, then you can definitely succeed!!

good luck!!
