An unconscious 25/F patient--->Ruptured ectopic-->have to do emergent laparotomy--> brought by her husband--->Should wehave to get an informed consent from her husband or should we proceed to operate since "Informed consent" is NOT necessary in emergency?

u should get an informed consent ( he should be informed) but if he refuses, go on with the procedure as long as it is an emergency

But in case u find something else that needs biopsy for..DON"T TOUCH IT> let her wake up then ask her permission then open her up again. Sucks? Such is life!

Physician acts in patient's best interest in absence of her being conscious or another family member being able to give consent... Go ahead with the surgery.. agree with mytime about the rest-- eg. if you find something else while you are digging around in there, leave it and tell her later. -unless ofcourse it's something else that's life threatening right then and there!
