hi there i just started usmle world and am dying. i am doing terrible. its not that i havent studied, but i honestly feel that information was not provided in my kaplan books! whereas on kaplan qbank i am doing really well. to an yone who took the test, how did you do on the banks before hand, and how was your score? i just want to know where i stand:S also, those who did the nmbe exam before taking the step 1, what were the diff in ur nmbe score and ur step 1 mark iknow from some people, if htey got a 80 on the nmbe their score on step 1 was alittle less than 80

starbrite520 wrote: hi there i just started usmle world and am dying. lol!! am very sorry. i have no business laughing at you. least of all, me. coz am not doing so great either. but, your starting was just so spontaneous and heartfelt. just couldn't help it!! i used to feel the same way too!! i think it's a common feeling[they should mention it somewhere in the beginning, right after you've signed up!!] anyway, what i want to say is, don't let it dishearten you. it will improve over time. don't forget that you'll also learn a lot as you do UW, and yes, stuff that's not in kaplan. so your score will be bad to begin with, and gets better as you keep at it. this was the advice given to me when i was doing terribly in the beginning too. it's helped. gl to you. [and to me, too!]

you ALWAYS will freak out when you start doing questions. but it gets better and it is about training yourself to learning how to answer the questions. slowly it will improve. i know i know it is so hard not to get frustrated and disheartened. i did! i freaked out and couldn't do UW or QBank for 2 days i was so upset and freaked out over my LOW scores. but then i got mad at myself for wasting 2 days. and then i tried to tell myself that there are ALWAYS going to be HARD questions on the exam, and part of the review is to help you deal with that as well. keep going and good luck

The performance profile though was RIGHT ON with showing my strengths and weaknesses as compared with my USMLE profile.

hi there, i started in the low 40s and even sometimes only 38. after i did 1000 questions and i still coudnt score higher than 50 three times in a row, i re-read the first 1000 questions again and again. when i went back on the unused questions i scored 65 twice in a row and i was so happy. but what happend today???? score of 40 two times. that is so depressing. now i told myself that i will only do unused questions again, when i scored more than 80 five times in a row (used questions)...

My UW scores improved over time. To begin with i wias at 60 for the first week. But now i am doing seven block at a go(like in the actual exam) UNUSED/TIMED/RANDOM QUESTIONS and i think i am fairing well. Averaging around 66 percent. My exam is on 23 aug. But whats worrying are my skewed results. Scoring something like this (out of 50)- 29,31,31,39,34,31,35. Is this much of skewing natural, even when i am using random questions. Or is my attention fluctuating? (likely)

Man, undersore, I tried to do 7 UW blocks of 50 recently, and got my ass handed over to me at the end of the 5th block! My goal was to hit the mid 60s, ended up only with 56% Hopefully I'll be able to do a whole 7 blocks and at least hit the 60% mark before I am done with UW.

first off,i think star you have a very common problem.remember,uw isnt a predictor of how well you might perform on the real exam.it is more like a grooming practice.it helps you open your mind to multiple options at the same time and then filter the wrong choices.it will fine-tune and condition your brain towards the kind of questions that pop up on the exam.UW makes the exam look extremely benign.on the other hand,NBME is a great predictor of your score.just keep practising and consolidating.all the best.

Well well well I don get it , when I started UW I was around 50 -60 % now after 1000 q I am still around 60 and I did lot of studying in the meanwhile ? and there some very unexpected results like 80% when I thought I was really bad and 52 % when I thought I did all the block just perfect
