A 48-year-old commercial fisherman presents to his primary care physician complaining of right leg pain and malaise. He had been working with oysters as well as eating raw oysters. A physical exam reveals right leg erythema and warmth with exquisite tenderness, consistent with cellulites. The patient recalls trauma to the leg while aboard his boat. His social history reveals 8–10 cans of beer consumption per day. While in the office, the patient becomes extremely ill and hypotensive. Two of three blood cultures are positive. Which bacterium is most likely responsible for this clinical scenario?

A. Campylobacter

B. Erysipelothrix

C. Shigella
