Hello friends, I am going to post few of my doubts, when it strikes me, in psychiatry today. Please bear with me and try to clear me. It would be really helpful. I will make my question as short as possible so that you could answer in a single line. Thanx!

No 1.

In factitious disorder-->Will there be positive physical signs??

Y not.?.like someone taking Insulin or OHGs faints when goes fasting. Then when u check u find NO c peptide..raised eyebrow....OH no! shockedShe's cheating.shaking head...well at least not pretending like a malingerer. confused

GIRL this is no way to lose wait or get attention. NO MORE PRIMARY GAIN for u.disapproval

And that MALINGERER who does not want to be deloyed Hmmmmmmmm We'll kick him out. SO we get a SECONDARY GAIN NOT HIM!!!!!!!! mad

yes they have, the take something to get them sick & so they are admitted, mainly its a matter of attention deficit so they seek it..

if nothing is wrong, then accord to present..

alot of symp & the pt is worried--->somatization

Only pain---> pain disorder..

maling r those who fake their sympt, i.e they don't add up, but even though, if he says the magic word..u shouldn let him go (I WANNA KILL MYSELF)

Hi sprint... I used to confuse these Somatoform disorders all the time! I hate them... Now I have an easy way of remembering them, so I thought I would share it with you...
Here it is -the quick and easy summary -just know the rules and you will know everything!

Somatoform:
-Everything is UNCONSCIOUS: Uncon. Symptom production and unconscious motivation (They don't know they are doing it and they don't know why)
-Physical Exam NORMAL and w/u NEGATIVE, because NOTHING is wrong with them!
-Examples:
1. Somatization: will have 4 Pain, 2 GI, 1 Sexual, 1 Psych complaint
2. Conversion: Stressor--> Neuro. Symptom
3. Hypochondriasis: Preocupied with disease -will come in and say"I have cancer."
4. BDD: thinks he is abnormal, or misshapen, many plastic surgeries. Think Michael Jackson.
5. Pain disorder: Obviously, PAIN is the main complaint in one or more site

Facticious:
-CONSCIOUS Symptom production, but UNCONSCIOUS Motivation (they know what they are doing, but they don't know why)
-Physical findings and W/U will be POSITIVE! because they WILL produce the symptoms or do things like: stick their finger and put blood in the urine, or take insulin, or swallow glass, or inject themselves with something.
-Examples: Facticious (Munchausen) or Facticious by proxy (M. by proxy)....
Person will do things to assume the sick role for them or their child (proxy).

Malingering:
EVERYTHING IS CONSCIOUS! Conscious symptom production and conscious motivation. (They know what they are doing and they know exactly why they are doing it)... This is NOT a medical or psychiatric disorder!
-They will produce symptoms or pretent to have something wrong with them for some kind of secondary gain like shelter in the hospital, medications, money, workers comp, etc.
