hi.
i had created a thread with free links to some qn banks for both step 1 and 2ck. but the thread was removed citing the reason that no usmle downlod links are allowed in this forum.
is this a new policy created or a recent change in an old policy? because i have seen numerous threads giving links to where people could download material that would help their preparation. and, my intention was to help my peers from who i have gained much.
any clarification on this will be much appreciated. thank you.

The msg I send you was from the forum adminstrator,He had made it clear that links are NOT ALLOWED in this forum and that msg was posted in the prep4usmle CLUB,u do not have access to this club coz you rnt a forum master as yet..so just for clarification, below i am copy pasting the post from the forum admin.

I think trading books is ok and it was done offline for centuries, now online too. There are debates about this but no laws yet to forbid selling/buying used books.
However, scanning books and sharing such links is illegal & unethical and not allowed here.

if the forum adminstrator decides to withdraw this rule ,then the mods will allow such links to be posted in this forum,till then we will be deleting them until we get any new msgs from the admin stating to allow such links.

Excuse me,
Why did you suddenly decide to delete them? It says in the rules that we shouldnt post the links but members always have been doing so. There are many links right now in the forum. So, why these in particular? Personaly, i have some that were deleted in these couple of days but there are still many out there.
Please, either band links for once and for all or just set the rule aside.

I have been deleting links from the time the rule is established by the forum adminstrator and not as u stated ( suddenly), and yes pls pay attention to the date the forum adminstartor has made this point abt posting links,this rule was made recently just 2months back and I will be deleting all of the them one by one,currently I have deleted almost 10 threads today which contained links to download usmle materials, AND EVERY MEMBER has to follow the rules of the forum and not following to do so will be resulting in deletion of the thread and reason will be supplied to the poster, as I did for many members who had been posting links today ,and if the member still continues to post links despite 3 warning from the moderator ,he will be suggested a ban.and YES NO RULES will be set aside for any member in particular,even if the member is a newbie or the forum moderator.Pls note that moderators doesnt take any actions for their own personal benefit,we are following the rules set by the admin of the forum ,and i repeat ,if the admin wishes to withdraw this rule, we wont be deleting any of such threads,but currently this is the rule of the forum,and the forum admin DO reserve the rights to change rules in future, u may read this in the rules sections of the forum.

These two things : posting links and personal emails were always against the rules but nowadays members are doing it daily. So, when i saw that every body is doing it i thought that these rules have been looked over but today suddenly or not suddenly they started being deleted.

All forum MASTERS can view this thread and the rules that was made in FEB 2003 as u copypasted above abt trading books has been CHANGED, and as I said earlier, the adminstrator DO RESERVE the rights to change rules of the forum.I will request the admin to update the rules of the forum,coz currently this updated rule is visible only for FORUM masters and that is y i make it a point to tell all members who posts links that CURRENTLY links to download materials are not allowed in this forum..You felt it all of a sudden ur posts were diappearing coz I deleted bangledoc thread today which contained many links posted by you in his thread, ,kindly note that just coz bangledocs thread was deletd today that doesnt imply that we mods started deleting such threads starting from today,and as i said earlier I have been doing it for the past 2 months,when the admin made this rule.If you got further queries regarding this topic that paheli has posted,pls PM the admin directly,coz the mods wont be able to modify any rules set by the prep4usmle adminstrator.Regarding promotion of blogs and ADS ,even this is NOT ALLOWED in this forum and the admin has banned many of them who persistently went against this rule.

thanks for your reply, aashi.
i just feel that many people will lose out now. this is a forum where we gain so much knowledge, not about the subjects, even though we do learn from the questions. but, we all learn about the process of acing the mles. we get to hear about so many sources of qns, various books. and if this is banned, it will be a gap, esp for new members joining. also many people may not be in a position to access some books the 'right' way, maybe it's simply not available where they live. and for them, this will be a loss.
i have a query. is it ok though to post qns from various sources? again, this is something that happens a lot, and everyone, myself included, gains from it.
also, p4a99's qn was not answered. how private are our pms?

Well the moderators doesnt have the power to access any members PMs atleast this is what i am aware of,Not sure whether or not the forum adminstrator can view the PMs.You may PM the admin directly to get this particular query answered, and regarding the download links in the resources section, I will request the admin to give us more input on this.
