I got 99 in step 1, 92 in step 2 and i failed in ICE (not communication skills, not spoken english). I passed the Communications skills with bordeline and easily the Spoken english I don;t know if i have less chance to find a good place after that. I am not thinking for the match of 2008 because i will do 2 years research. However, i am thinking of taking CS as soon as possible in order to get rid of it ( iw will have alot of work in the lab) but i am afraid of the changes in minimum passing score. According to the announcement the spoken enlish and the communication english will be more difficult. What do you suggest to do? Should i take as early as possible?

Do not give up hope any point of time. Take the exam as early as your confident enough to give it with a positive attitude. Your great score will definitely help you .You should still try for the immediate next match, I believe.

It is just an exam , they want to teach us to learn to deal with patient respectfully , and make a good Diagnisis. donot give up . there are so much more ahead. so move on. you are almost there.retake the test before aug31, focused study with partner will help alot.you will match this year. good luck

thank you guys for the support. anyway i will not participate in 2008 matching. i will do 2 years research. I met many fellows who did IM in ''inferior'' institutes and now are doing fellowship in very very ''superior'' hospitals because they have research in their cvs. I want also to do research (i like both research and clinical medicine). I suugest that to you too, if you want to be more competitive for the fellow.

This doesn't sound to me that the problem was "being arrogant" or a "show off"... ICE entails Patient Note and Data gathering which in turns is a combination of history taking and PE tasks. I have just failed in the same thing, great english and interpersonal skills... I really need to think more about it, i am still bleeding on the wound... but this means to me that WE NEED TO TAKE IT REALLY SERIOUS in the way they want us to PERFORM, the PE and the interrogation... I am devastated, i am in the middle of my fellowship... in a top place, now I am wondering how much damage this is going to make to my application... Spiros, I am so sorry.

I really don't understand how the SP give the score to my ICE part, which consist Data taking and Patient Note two parts, the patient note is evaluated by a doc like you and me and this part of mine is good, but the data taking part score of mine is like blank, like I did nothing to them at all, but actually I asked them almost everything like LIQOAAA, PAMHUGSFOSS. It is unlogical if I got my patient note pretty good and meanwhile I get zero on the data taking! So I am very worried how do the SPs give us score?? It is so easy to ruin everything no matter how well you have done if they do it carelessly!! I am so confused and depressed!!Hope you guys give me some ideas!! Thank you!

Guys, I totally agree... I did a lot of things, questioning, etc... are the SP's audited? or is there any control? What are exactly the expectations in terms of PE in an acutely ill patient? (i.e. subarachnoid hemorrhage)????

Hi guys again. sorry i haven't written anything for a long time. i took CS a couple of time again. Now i am doing research in the area i want to specialize. The good thing of that failure is that now i improved a lot the way i take the history and perform the physical exam. However i think that i failed because my hand writing was very bad. actually i don't know any person with worse handwriting than mine. This time i typed. i hope this time to get the passing score. however i think that my performance was worse this time. i don't know... there is no reason to think about. thank you for the support. i also hope to ind a position in a top program for my fellow which is not very competitive(actually is one of the less competitive ). take care guys

for the research. if you know somebody to introduce you is the best, otherwise it is more complicated Do you want to be paid? if you don't. just send a lot of emails, but at least few months in advance. Initially, i sent a lot of emails one and a half year before , and i found a lot of labs but without salary. then i got a scholarship and i asked a really very big name using the name of one of my referees. so here i am. if you want to be paid it is very difficult unless s you have a very strong recommendation or you have research experience. good luck
