1)) Is bupropion contraindicated in Bulimia N or Anorexia N too??

2)) Why we should not use Bupropion with MAOIS??

3)) Is it right that if pt. is using bupropion he shoud not drink alcohol???are there any additive effcts of alcohol and bupropion???

4)) What r the other indications of bupropion except smoking cessation and depression?

5)) If pt is using bupropion for smoking cessation can he use the same for depression as well???

1 yes it is because thes pts throw up so may have an elctrolyte abnormality---> seizures

2 pts Bupropion should have their bl pr monitoredso i think it will cause hypert crises with MAOIs

3 same (bupropion lowers the seizure threshold)

4 ADHD + Dep (drug of choice)

Well said Cirus. Let me add a few points.

1. Bupriopion causes anorexia & hence weight loss. So if anyone comes with weight gain with anti depressants, bupriopion is the DOC. also smoking cessation normally causes upto 5 Lb of weight gain & Bupriopion helps here.

& to answer your 5 th querry, yes, bupropion is used for both smoking cesation as well as As Depression.

BUPROPION

INDICATIONS:
Depression (refractory cases)
SSRIs-induced sexual dysfunction
Smoking cessation
Obesity (SE:Anorexia)
Adult ADHD
Seasonal affective disorder (prevention)

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Epilepsy
Other conditions that lower the seizure threshold, for instance alcohol or benzodiazepine discontinuation
Eating disorders (anorexia nervosa/bulimia)
Brain tumors
Together with MAOs
