NNL, forgive me for not specifying that I was speaking to AMS. I saw many posts claiming months and months of prep time with ridiculous amounts of books which made no mention of being IMGs. In conclusion, if you're an AMS at a decent school, this is how I would do things(and did as it so happens).
oh ya, i sTil kaNt UndrstND u whn U talk lIk This.

We focus so much on memorizing - 'most common cause of ....' or 'most common complication of...' - that whenever we come across rare things we just ignore or we try to put that rare thing in its place to have a better understanding of it.

so why don't we do that here - if an American Medical Students finds forums where people say they spend months together for their prep - and if he/she finds it "not common" that should ring a bell in his/her mind that MAYBE the circumstances are different - or whatever

similarly if an International Medical Graduate comes across a post saying that it took only weeks to prepare for the test - it should strike him/or her that the circumstances here are different - not only different but OBVIOUS!!!!!! its not common to find some old IMG or any IMG (for that matter) prepare only weeks for the step and ace it (with the exception of dncostasticking out tongue

I think now i really dont get u my simple objection to ur experience was that with Ur AMS background and u r a current student ur usage of BRS was slightly not fair. It Was my understanding that the Current AMS arent refering to BRS at all though it was their fav books couple of yrs ago. 2ndly as an AMS, i actually believe u neednt consult BRS series at all. Cos the Resources provided to AMSs r enuf during the 2 yr period and there shdunt be any need to consult Basic Books such as BRS.

Now If u were to tells us that u had a very pathetic US School to beign with and u were almost a College Dropout (the Underdog Story for Drama Effect) and u still managed to pull it off, it wud have been understandable Or If u belonged to Some Really 3 rated Med School down South Of the Border then it wud be understandable.

But it wasnt so Thats Y I was skeptical abt it. I hope u arent as confused as u were earlier. I do also hope that it answers everyone's question as to y i wrote the First Comment.

hey, you know what, just yesterday i met a final year AMS who had already given her step 1 and is now preparing for step 2 suggested me to stick to BRS physio and pathology.raised eyebrow
ofcourse i didn't take her advise as i already started studying from Goljan Rapid Review for path.cool

NNL, I'm confused about your contempt for BRS. Unless you have a complete photographic memory of everything you've ever learned, BRS is a fantastic resource.. If you're suggesting that people go back and read hundreds to thousands of pages of syllabi which contained much more detail than is necessary for Step 1, that would fall into the category of study overkill.
In my opinion, anything more detailed than BRS(except for certain circumstances of stuff that you happen to be interested in) just IS NOT NECESSARY.
