This is my first post on this site. I had to limit how much I looked at it because of how gunner-ish and paranoia regarding prep for the step one was stressing me out.
First off
255/99
Exam take June 18
Prep time 6 weeks ~10-12 hrs/day weekdays ~6hrs/day weekends
Qbank, 100% complete (last 300 questions): 74%
Qbank IV 100% complete: 82%
USMLE CD: 88%
NBME Form 3(1 week before exam): 600
NBME Form 4(2 days before exam): 650

Materials used:
First Aid 2007 (3x through)
Qbank and IV Qbank
BRS Physiology
BRS Pathology
Clinical Micro Made Ridiculously Simple
First Aid Qbook
Goljan Lectures(once through)

Thats it. No huge list of books, only the most essential. I couldnt' stand the thought of buying extra stuff I wouldn't need. My first impression: DO LOTS OF QUESTIONS. I calculated how many practice questions I did and got in the neighborhood of ~5000. Learn to love first aid. Live with it, sleep with it, love it. Listen to Goljan...the man knows what hes talking about and he makes connections that make things come together. Most of all, STUDY THE WAY YOU KNOW HOW TO STUDY. It got you through the first two years of medschool, theres no reason to change it for this test because of something you read on this site that someone who got a good score did.

What did you read for all the other subjects? or you just did Qs for the rest of them?

Please, did you graduate yet or you are still a student? if still a student, in the US or some where else?

Thanks for your time...

Those are all the resources I used. Others may disagree with me, but in my opinion, those books cover the learnable material in the most efficient fashion with the least amount of wasted studying. Sure, they don't have every detail you could theoretically be asked, but hour for hour, you'll get more points of of these(once again in my opinion) than anything else.
I am still a student in the US, I've been on the wards for 3 weeks now.

Thanks for the clarification. Good luck in all the other things in your life. Please stay in touch till you get your other 99 on step2!

Can you share the Q style, subj , images , etc which is more ask in your exm, not in terms of real Q stem, just the general idea like ... for example ...anatomy test havily in embryo as diagram in brachial pouch, arch etc .
What type of Q are ...Q are direct short Q , without tricky so many, how many steps as basic or clinical way as cases .etc.

Also your premed, med of how many yrs of basic sc learning, in how many months in each subj with which texts, review books are use in the curriculum that you also used, read all or partly , to references that you've read well or just few pages or just need to read class hand out, notes, school own publishing texts, books, shool webs & links for Q, learning, notes online from school & its related , recommanded links , Q & sc etc .

Also as AMG , student , the score matter or not , if does in which specility , which competitive sepcilty & hospital or region are AMG's usually aiming for & why ?

Do post your clinical yr books, small or review or big or hand books now in using at your ward .

Thank you , & Congrat !!

U R An AMS So Wht R u trying to tell us that an AMS went thru those resources and got 255. Plz For the Love Of God Stop Being Naive................

Schwe- I didn't feel heavily questioned on anatomy or embryology. In fact, my knowledge of those areas was rudimentary and confined only to those resources I listed above, and ~1 hr(no joke) of going through macbaby for embryo.
My impression of the questions was that there were lots of things you just couldn't study for. Lots of extrapolating from data that you should know, to data that you could theoretically figure out from there, but would never have memorized. In general, the questions were medium length, and didn't feel as hard as a lot of qbank did, but I have to say it was unlike any other question experience.....qbank, the usmle cd, and the nbme form exams are all similar, but the real test feels distinctly different, at least to me.
Premed: I was a physiology major who took ~2 years of pchem and ochem as well as all the bio/phys classes related to my major. I have no idea which books I studied in college.....I didn't use any of them to prepare for this test.
During medschool: we are on a 2 year basic science program which covers biochem, anatomy, neuro, endo etc first year and 2nd year was organ system based with clinical medicine, pathology, microbiology and pharmacology courses integrated into each block. During the first 2 years, my study resources were school-generated syllabi, BRS phys, BRS path, and Baby Robbins with a few extras here and there, but nothing major.
Ward books: I'm starting on peds and have yet to purchase books for any other rotations. For peds, I'm using pediatrics blueprints and casefiles: pediatrics.

new_n_lost: I Cnt Undrstnd U whn U tipe lik this. I'm not really sure what you're asking. My purpose for posting this was that I think a lot of time people get caught thinking they need to prepare for a year with no less than 25 books in order to get this kind of score. Obviously, in at least some cases, that is incorrect. Those are the only resources I used during my 6 weeks of prep time. If thats naive, then I guess I was born yesterday.

That was exactly what i wanted to hear. If you forgot anything or if there are any other books that you can squeeze in there that would be great. Thanks for the input.

Hi, NNL, there is NO comparison of physio in undergrad college to physio in medical school. You learn no clinical info at all in college physio, just the general science loaded with tons of math calculations, and you study mostly animals, but some human info included for completeness smiling face

Edie .......... The Point Is an AMS comes Up to U and Says that He has Done BRS and Got Good Scores Its Like ARENT U SUPPOSED TO GET THE SCORE WITHOUT BRS Cos Ur College has Preped U Enuf to GET THAT REQUIRED SCORE.

I wud have gladly appreciated his point and his contention but He is an AMS though they arent superior to IMGs in any sense but its how u r preped for 2 yrs to ACE a particular exm unlike IMGs who have no inclination of giving MLE during their 2 yrs.

Anyways these r my opinions and thoughts Agree or Disagree wont make a difference.

Thanks for that piece of advice. I am even more motivated.

Congratulations on your excellent score.

BRS Physio by Constanzo is actually very good, NNL, and most med students use it not only just for boards prep, but to help with school exams as well.

Is this forum exclusive to IMGs? I thought this was a site for people prepping for the USMLE, period. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

To Edie ..................Dude/Dudette Chill Out NOW THIS FORUM IS NOT EXCULSIVE TO ANYONE YET THIS FORUM IS FOR EVERY ONE TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS PERIOD !!!!!!

If Someone Wants to say anything on their Minds its their Right U MAY OR MAYNOT AGREE UR RIGHT UR ISSUE.

All I was saying to Edie bro/Sis was that Plz dont Mislead ppl When posters forget to mention they r IMS or AMS, thats all. I didnt buy the story i expressed my comments. I do Know abt BRS Series and their Worth and I m specifically not sayint tht arent good enuf but alone of that sort of a score and in that sort of Time and in that Sort of a Situation NO BIG DEAL. If ANyone else was in the same place as he/her wud have gotten the same result. Tht All!!!!!!!

Peace Guys & Gals.

Thanks for your clarification, NNL. There's nothing wrong with being a skeptic, or expressing your opinions, I agree. But you seem to go for the jugular in your comparisons between IMGs and AMSs. Perhaps all that energy is better suited towards passing the MLE Step 1? That's MY opinion smiling face

BTW, I'm a dudette grin

Lol Jugular .... Nice one .......... Isnt That Wht Grey's Yang wud do Go straight for it and Rip it out. wink
I havent Said Much on This Topic For a long Time and i m sure most of us (IMGs)feel this way but r hesitant to say this. Sometimes U cant be like Meredith all the Time u have to be like Yang.

I m glad we r having this discussion under a happy mode seriously maybe i may have been too over zealous in my comparisons of IMGs with AMSs but thts wht i felt. After literally being mocked by a couple of them i tried to understand the difference cos i for one do believe that all humans have the same brain matter and it entirely depends on how u use it. So maybe they r better so i can be better. that was before i entered US. Now when i have seen the system and College Interactions I m somehow amazed by the capabilities of the IMGs cos one person has 2 yrs of prep the other has 6-8 mnths of prep yet the Score difference isnt tht much. Plus All the Grads do know how it feels like to go back to books of Pre Clinicals when u have done ur Clinicals.

So JUST AS A REQUEST TO ALL AMS and IMS plz Do Mention Ur Status When u Post ur Exm Experience So We IMGs dont get shocked and feel left out on big Secret of Preping Under 5-6 wks.

Peace Guys & Gals !!!!!!!!!!!
