Dearest Feyza

I would have been certainly happier if it was in round figure but inshallah you will get a residency slot dont worry. I personally know a relative of mine she is one year junior to me and a mom of 3 she got her scores both in 70s and recently started her residency so don't worry you will do too.

congrats Feyza!!!!and pls dont talk about becoming a baby sittermadmadmad
U have step1 out of the way now.I have read posts of people with multiple attempts and scores in 70s gettin good residency. The important thing is to work hard for ur step2 and i wish u a 90 there insha Allah!also you could try and get some form of USCE, i have noticed that sometimes, USCE carries more weight than high scores. With Allah nothing is impossible. You have the toughest step behind you.Wishin u all the best.

Hi Feyza,
First of all, CONGRATS ON YOUR SCORE!! Do you know how you have beaten the odds, been a mother, still rallied on and got a real world score???? I mean do you even realize how much you have inspired us here??? The very reason it is a sticky is to let us real folks (and future ones) that this exam is doable, we should NOT stress out and go FACE IT like you did!!

Time to relax and party a bit, and get back to the books!
Good luck for step 2!!!! smiling face

Hi Feyza!

Sorry wasn't able to drop by the forums these past few weeks coz I had to resume my usual duties here in the house as Daddy daycare. My mom went back to the Philippines a week after my exam I was overwhelmed when I had my hands full taking care of the kids. Yep, I got my life back. Yipee! Sure wished we only had to take one exam to practice here in the US, coz my brain is groaning in anticipation for Step 2.

Like you I also scored a 194/79 on my Step 1 this June. Like so many others, we agonized for 6 weeks (or more, like for Gogeta and the rest) waiting for our scores to be reported.

I know the score is not much (and it may have crushed my dream for an IM residency here) but I also knew my limitations. I envied those of you who had 12+ hrs a day to study. The most I could squeeze in during my review was 3hrs on the average.

But you know what? Reading those encouraging posts a few days before my exam really did it. I knew I would pass the exam. Its just a question of accepting my own limitations and being positive all throughout the exam. My UW cumm score was 57%, so 2 x 57 +80 = 194. (what a coincidence) And I was only able to answer <50 of the questions in UW. Had I had more study time (and less responsibility) I would have nailed it.

hey feyza,
congatulations on passing the step and GL for other steps.....
try ur best and surely u will get good residency!!!!

  #125

wow. Harrison's heavy stuff. I was an Internist back home and studied Harrison for my diplomate boards. But bear in mind that by the time they've published whatever's in there the data is already 5-7 years old. Good for pathophysiology, though.

my decision to come to the US was a tough one, I already had a good practice when my wife's papers came up. so now I have my greencard, taking the usmle was the next logical thing to do. Of course, I should have taken it back home but since it was so expensive I decided to forego it for a while...

Once my youngest goes to daycare/school this 13th I will be starting Step 2. I wasn't able to bring the 2 volumes of Harrison so I brought the pocket companion instead. A family friend lent me her Kaplan books, though the Internal medicine and Surgery are missing. And lastly, FA. Bought that online.

Now how to start? Im guessing I have to go right to Medicine right away coz the scope is so huge. Next would be the other subjects. I would be trying out UW about next month once I have some "Stock" knowledge.
