just thought to know the rules that can it be done or not.there is no problem with the prog just want to do it again in a better prog to get into fellowship.but don't know the rules and how helpful will it be.

  #5

you forgo $150k for $40k? Once you are done with your residency, I don't believe you will have motivation to start a residency all over again.

  #6

Why don't you do a 2 year (or 3) fellowship and then when you finish do another 2 year (3)fellowship at another program. You save yourself 1 year.

  #7

thanks a lot for the advice but getting in fellowship is tough and that is making to think about all these.hope someone knows the rule that can i apply or not.

  #8

shaking headI can't think of a program that will take you in a residency for the second time. You might to better working as a hospitalist and continuing research to improve your chances for a fellowship.

thanks bbb,you are right i too think so.

but is there a rule which stops me doing this.

This is just a 2nd or third hand info which i read somewhere(probably
in one of the other forums).; that if you started training you should
finish that in six years. if you've used up three years for IM, then
theoretically you still have three more years left for any other
residency. fellowship is a different matter. it adds up more years for
training.

why wld you have to repeat training and not just go into research
fellowship which is just 1 or 2 years. look up for NIH research
fellowships. Besides you'd be taking away an additional slot from other
applicants.

better yet why not go into an IVY league graduate program (MBA, MPH,
etc) and get to know that fellowship program you're targetting to
enhance your resume while practicing. this way you're hitting several
birds with one stone. you're earning good money, you're not taking away
any slot from other applicants and you're learning something new.

You have 7 years to pass the board of IM.

i heard that the program does not get good money to train you, from authorities, if you are already post residnecy. This info was given by a PD when inquired if one can finish IM residency and then apply for EM residency. I dont know if one can repeat IM residency.. but this may apply.

Also research or hospitalist job is a better oprtion; furthermore.. apply for chief rsident dude.
