With advanced age, the ability of osteoblasts to divide and to lay down osteoid is reduced, giving rise to senile osteoporosis. In CONTRAST, postmenopausal osteoporosis is characterized by hormone-dependent acceleration of bone loss. alrady explained...yes...
in females ...its estrogen def dependent IL-1 RANTES etc mediated osteoclastic activity that is dominant but still in females ....the ability to lay down more OSTEOID is the dominant feature...its not just for MALES
