hey guys :
im a first year pre-clinical student , i and im really worried about USMLE step 1 exam , so all im asking is :
can you please tell what are the books to buy? and what are not to ?!
should i get Kaplan QBook or Qbank ?
and what about NMS series ?! i heared it is good ! but what about kaplans ?
please , i'll be more than happy if u guys added me to ur msn list..
so i would talk to an person who went through this exam , and will do me a great help...

wel it is located in a city called "6th October"
the uni. is "Misr UNiversity for science and technology"
a private uni. which has Medicine School

hey Omar, first finish the pre clinical years and the first year in the clinical years and then prepare for Step 1 . preparing early won't be good for you and you'll get bored super fast.
when you finish studying Internal Medicine go for the test.
and don't buy books untill you decide to do the test in a one year time since they change a lot every year, so when you think you are ready buy them and start studying .... GL

i appreciate taking from ur time to reply , thanks
studying for usmle wont really help me at my 1st preclinical year , but lets say that i wanna plan for my study from now , the sooner the better...and im kinda a person who loves to know more , human body is just a miracle.
so im trying to get the books so i ca start reading about USMLE "reading not studying"
especially im an average studnet in genetics and molecular biology..

Start now with Guyton's Physiology and Snell's Clinical anatomy ... Lippincot's review of Biochemistry + Harper's Biochemistry , Lipppincotts review of Pharmacology + Robin's Pathology. you will be studying these subjects in your pre clinical years.
remember these are reference books and you should only read certain topics .. they are not good books to be read cover to cover. books to be read cover to cover are :
Kaplan lecture notes: Biochemistry ( includes genetics and molecular bio ), Physiology, Pharmacology
Board Review Series (BRS) : Physiology, Pathology
High Yield : Behavioral Sciences, Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Histology, Embyology (first edition)
Lippincott's biostatistics ....
these books are must buy for the test BUT only when you will take the test within one year so you buy the latest editions .... and First Aid is a must and some people like to read Goljan rapid review of Pathology ....
infact the most important thing is to find a book that you feel comfortable while reading it ... for instance i felt much better reading kaplan physiology compared with BRS physiology, i.e : you choose the books that you like eventually ...
Qbook and Q bank and USMLE Wrold are good for practice questions ...
and that's all...
