Hi dear colleagues:

I am an IMG, I have 8 year experience working in ER in my home country, also I have teaching experience in ER in my home country. I am preparing myself 4 step 1, actually I am in doubt if I should apply for ER residency or not, becoz it is so sterssfull & I was somehow exhausted in the last year of my work.

Now I want to ask your opinion:

1- what do you think about working as an ER doctor in USA (in comparison to other specialities?)

2- Is my work experience a positive factor for me to be accepted in ER?

3- What do you know about the salary of a ER physician? ( in comparison to other specialities?)

1- it's completely a preference issue.

2- although it might help you...you're still an IMG... so unforunately it would still be hard to get accepted into this competitive specialty.

3- For the amount of hours the put into it, ER physicians are amongst the highest paid. Work schedule is typically 14-18 days a month, and income is typically between $150-200,000.

after digging out in the net i found they may work for 15 days a month only for 200-250k or full time for 400-450 k

also those with many years of experience work for 150 dollar per hour

so for e.g:
one work 10 hrs a day 6 days a week this makes: 150*10*6*4*11= 396k per year

very rewarding!!!!!!

200 dollars /hr!!!!!!

now the matter is that i havenot seen any program sponsoring h1b visa

only j1 or green card.....and we no waiver jobs r very hard for er doctors

so if any one knows any programs that sponsor h1b plz share with us

well I thought that ER waiver jobs should be relatively eaiser coz of 3 reasons

A) EM is a primary care specialty
B) Very few IMGs (requiring visa) in EM, so there should be no competition for waiver jobs, unlike IM, where there r plenty of IMGs on a J1 visa literally huting for a waiver job
C) There are plenty of EDs all across America in all kind of settings, some of them obviously will be in underserved areas, so no AMG will like to go there, thus those become potential sources of waiver jobs.

Does this seem logical?
