Hi, I am thinking about waht subspeciality to apply for in 2008 as an old IMG. From what I read, it seems not many choice. FM, IM pathology and psychiatry. Now I am thinking about the possibility of preventive medicine. Several question need to be clearified. 1) Is there many PM programs there? 2)What is the requirement? 3)How about the future work potential? Thanks in advance for any comment. By the way, I did not find a specific forum for PM, is that included into family medicine?

You can find the answer to your First question by browsing http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/ (then click on "List by program specialty")

Hi oldguy. I tried looking for prev med programs thinking that itll be an easier program to get into. It turns out that almost all if not all of the programs need an internship year before applying to the prev med program and most are looking for an IM internship. it is a separate specialty (some though offer a combined IM/PM or FM/PM). the specialty includes gen prev med, aerospace, and occupational medicine. there are also options for a subspecialty in prev med like hyperbaric medicine (undersea) and medical toxicology. you can try looking for more information in their website at ACPM.org
