From Qs & UW, first line is thyroidectomy as Anti thyroid medications are Contraindicated in preg but in Kaplan, Prop thiouracil is first line as it has less incidence of placental crossing..????

So what is it???

another point missing in Kaplan is that Graves, Mult Scl, PU & Migraine headaches are better in preg, exept for graves may have some effect on the neonate d t crossing of anti thyr abs that will act on the noenates thyroid gland ( Inc thyroid sec)

hyperthyroid and pregnant-
PTU in first trimester ,surgery in second.
both PTU and methimazole cross the placental barrier but PTU considerably less than methimazole , hence preferred in pregnancy.raised eyebrow

RAI is absolut CI

Methimazole is Absoultely CI

Propylthiouracil is used in 1st trim( less crossin of the placent). 2nd trimest is surgery ( in many cases, thyroid disease improves in preg)..
