If old grad, IMG , better get 90 . But ppl do get residency in high 80 or mid 80, some times odd luck, if you're in that special luck in your life . We do not know our luck generally though . So low marks are risky , but may be , no one know . Also not all , for some get residency with low marks, but they are mostly recent grad k with contact or odd luck. GL

i know a doctor who's on the board of a fairly competitive university (harvard) who basically summarized what u need are 3 things to be selected w/ a good chance. 1. u need to be recent graduate & he even gave the number of years. 3. u have to have be w/in 3 years of graduation when u apply. 2. above a score of 90 on your steps. 3. letters of reccomendation frm the US w/ these 3 you can have a fair chance. this doctor himself was an img and he says every year they pick & choose candidates. & every time he sits & fights for the img w/ a 99 on both steps but they don't listen. they would rather pick an amg who's failed the steps a couple of times than take the most perfect img. so see (this is not to discourage u in any way!!) the competitiveness w/ which you'll be going through. so what you need to do is not try to pass but try as hard as you can to get the highest score you can get. people who take the MLE end up quitting their jobs, sit at home & study. i know another guy w/ a family n' all who sold their business (their only livelihood) to take this exam. they take it seriuosly. i used to do part time 4 days a week & then cut down to sat & sun. i still didn't find enough time to study & now i've quit working completely till the exam. if you want to take this exam, take it seriously. u can still work & study, it's not like it's not possible but it's very hard. this exam takes alot of time & lot of prep. & your aim should be to get the highest score you can because that's the edge you'll get. & it's not like people are just passing & not getting residency, they are. many are just passing & still getting residency but you have ALOT of ppl you're competing w/. so please do not take this negatively, no no no!! take this as a suggetion that when you study for this exam, give it your best shot. don't aim for a passing score, aim higher & u can get it. only if u try can u succeed.
