Hey you guys!!

Does anyone know someone who has matched to a residency program (e.g. internal medicine), and after completing PGY1 decided to change specialties (because of change of heart, personal issues, discovered that surgery or obgyn or public health is their callling, something like that), and quit their current residency and started the process of applying to ERAS and doing the match again, and start in a NEW specialty as a PGY1 again in another hospital or even in another state?

Can this be possible??

Please, please write your thought about this....thank you!

I personally know several people that match on a program, and when they were there they just hated the place and they match for the next year in another place for PGY2, only 2 were able to get the PGY2, other just change residency.

I also know a guy that went into FM, realise that it was not for him and change for IM on the next year. the same goes from Surgery and they did not like it and change it to FM.

SO yes

Thank you again!!!

Yolanda - also think of this from the program where you will be working. You will need to get a LOR from your current program director. Many PDs won't interview you without one. Also, when are you going to have time to interview at another program? Take time from your rotations and have your co-workers cover for you? That's not going to make you very popular?

Not trying to be negative - but you need to think of this from a program standpoint........

grinThank you bbb, yes I thought of that, you are right. and it seems very unprofessional also, I guess it is better to choose wisely and I think I better wait ANOTHER YEAR shaking headsad, and try to match in a program that I want and not a program that I think I have more chances to get into this year.
