ok i have started preparing 2 months back for this exam, was doing good in the beginning but later lost track and now am here for u guyz to help me.. at first i started with physio then did biochem ,i was just listening to the videos and didn't memorize anything ,just left the subjects once i finished with listening to the videos. now someone has suggested me to do systems..so i have started doin it, finished with renal now.but again in the back of my mind i feel like i shud start doin questions now. the thing with me is ..am starting one thing and leaving without properly finishing it.my first idea was to finish each subject as qucik as possible.but that was taking forever. and now i have no idea whr to start and whr to end and when to do questions..as everyone is talking about Qbanks and UW. Plzzz help.!!!!!i seriosuly need a good score and i am promising myself that i will focus and read from now on.. and am planning to give my exam in November....thats not too far ..

Hi there ! Well i'm not different from u but at least i ve made up my mind that i ll do books chapterwise and every after one or two chapter i ll watch DVD for it ......... first reading ll be like this no matter what i ll retain or not but at least at the end of first reading i ll be confident that at least i know all the material in the books so second reading ll gonna help me in retaining material ......... So just stop looking here n there n thinking about different ideas for studying just sit n start first reading with ur dvds ....... and just finish it no matter what may come ...... problem with me is the selection of books specially for anatomy n patho cause i just wanted to keep myself with kaplan only ........ so what should i do about patho

Guys! If you understand how MEMORY works you may realize that going through the chapters or books too fast and not revising is a bad technique, for most of the people. I feel - giving enough time for the first read, and revising it as soon as you finish the chapter (provided you finish within a day) and a superquick revision the next day - is the best technique to retain more information. I heard somewhere that when you memorize a huge amount of information, after 1day you retain only 15-25% of that information. But if you revise it the next day you retain more than 60% after that!!! So my suggestion is - whatever strategy/schedule you plan on see that you retain maximum information at the end.

thank u chromosome and bioguy..for ur suggestions. chromosome..the technique u are using ..i was using the same till 2 months..was reading really quick just to finish of the first read..but later i realised that i am not retaining anything and more over i was getting bored sticking to just one subject ,,thats y i started doin systems..and i think its better than the first ,probably works for me.. . and as far as the books are concerned ..High yield is the best book for anatomy and goljan is the bestest book for path.. sometimes i fall in love with the goljan audios.. bioguy.... i know wat u are saying about ..same thing i felt ..that i am not retaining things just by reading it fast...i think of revising too .but the next day when i sit to read ..i feel like goin to the next topic just for the sake of completely the whole chapter. but i will try to revise as much i as i can before jumping into another thing.. again thank u guyz..

stick to one way...study all of physio and biochem..or do it systems based, whatever you feel is better. I must say that systems based a little difficult if you are not familiar with all of the general stuff, but it works for many people. the new first aid is systems based and it was really good. you'll do fine, just find a way you are comfortable with and stick to it, and don't worry about what other people suggest once you have gotten into your groove.
