hi all,
just through the step 2. Started studying in april 1st week. Finished my step 1 in later 1st week of March and then took a 15 day vaccation with family. Serious studies started in april after oasis said that step 1 was clear.
Here are my 2 cents:
Most of the exam experiences are already there on this forum esp the recent ones from Arlete and Motorola. I think the mean is somewhere between them.
What i want to share are some things that helped my during my prep. i am an old grad 1987 mBBS so they may be apt for people with simmilar background.
1. I thought USMLE all the time... discussing., talking with freinds, joking, while bathing, while with family or with patients, while going to bed... .....even while making love.
FOCUS.... and it is hardest to maintain.
2. I stopped interacting with people who gave me negative vibes or were pessimistic .. well meaning freinds who tried to reason the futility of the USMLE excercise at my age. i knew what I wanted to do and nothing else mattered.
3. i continued with my job as earlier. it used to break the monotony of studying.
Ultimately the exam was sort of an anticlimax. bacchon ka exam hai yaar... too basic.
That is not to say that I will pass or do well . But guys stick to basics...and yo will do well... Concepts are tested and not data. And concepts in medicine dont change much and there arn't many to learn.
One book I want to recomend is USMLE Secrets by Adam Brochart. Though the edition is old the concepts he emphasises are those that were asked of me. Take a look at it.

Yaar, GENIUS ke liye sab kam bacchhon ka khel hi hota hai! Great to know that you are done with the exam. Any comments on the UW/Kaplan QBank?

Hey I also remeber that you were doing Mock by Brochert. So do you think that doing that book is a good way of doing Secrets? I am assuming that both books have the same material and emphasize on the same concepts. I am asking you this since I am more a questions-solving type of person rather than reading theory

coolmavs: Secrets is a better book than Mock exams simply becuse the recall value is greater. Mock uses a lot of buzzwords and makes you feel complacent. But please do Secrets. It is a greatly undervalued book.. at least on this forum.
Also Coolmavs dont skip the K-Qbank in favour of UW. The K guys have definitely dissected the step 2 better.... they are at it for a much longer time remember...
Bhanupriya: I First saw the K-DVDs read the K notes and saw the medicine DVDs again.
Then I went through Usmle Secrets by Adam brochert.
Then I read the Kaplan notes again and highlighted imp points.
Did UW in detail and made small one-sentence notes of the q's that I did not get right.
Started doing Mock Exams but left halfway as I found it too predictable.
Last 15 days I finished Kaplan Q Bank; i must say it is good and the K guys know the exam better ther the UW guys.
Read the K Notes fast (only highlighted portions)and went through the notes I made from UW in the last 7 days. And listened the K Highlights MP3 for Medicine, Gyn& Obs and Pshyc. These are a MUST in the final week.
Nothing else... No CMDT, No FA, no q-book, no Opthal; No ECG; No Dermatology ... no nothing. I also heard Goljan MP3 for step 2 at the onset of my prep.

Congrats hotobhaga! 1 quesion: Is it ok if i do the Kaplan Q bank which is floating around for sale. I guess it is 2006-2007 one.
