Hi everyone, I took the test in Chicago a week ago, and hopefully I will have a good new to share after august 15th.

My preparation time was 3 weeks, and I don't know how useful could be any advise from me in that sense. I have a decent, fluent english, and I practiced family medicine in my home country under time pressure, so seeing a patient in 15 minutes and then having 10 minutes to write a note sounded like a lot of time to me. Even so, I had one patient that I could not complete properly, whereas with the rest of them I left the room 2-3 minutes before the end of the encounter.

I used FA and UW, just like most of people in the forum, and I think is more than enough to take this test. I wrote every note.

Now, let me tell you about my hotel nightmare. I made the mistake to stay at the Marriot O' Hare, thinking that it would be sooo convenient and soo comfortable to be right across the street from the center. WRONG. The room was tiny, the bathroom was tiny, although the bed was very comfy. Forget about complimentary breakfast, although you will pay $169 dollars a night (with the usmle discount) and 20 dollars a day if you park your car in their parking lot. When I was gonna check out, I went to the lobby to grab a luggage cart, but apparently, the hotel is so exclusive that you have to use the bellman service. I did not have enough cash on me to tip the bellman, so I had to go back and forth from my room to the parking lot 3 times. They did not let me park the car in the front door without paying valet service. I contacted the hotel about this and they have not bother to call me back.

Oh, don't forget to try the deep dish pizza, it is GOOD. There is a place called Giordanos that is very famous for their stuffed pizza, and they live up to their fame!

Ok, I guess I will give more detail on my preparation after I actually pass the test, in the meanwhile i will stick to my prayers, and hope the best for all of you preparing for CS.

hi cristina, good luck with your results. it was an interesting anecdote(about marriot).i have a reservation with wyndham garden o'hare and i hope it will be ok. anyways i'll post my experience once i am done with my exam(another week to go).
nadiabarati, everything was given in the link i gave yu. it clearly mentions- the hotels with a star on them will give yu a discount so just give the hotel a call.

nadiabarati, you will find the hotels that have special rate for tests takers in the usmle web page.

Good luck to you too rock and sprint123, and rock, nothing can be worse than paying too much and getting too little, so don't worry and give your best that day.

thanks for the reply. But I also took a hotel with a star as rock says. But they told me that for JULY they decreased the rate so They won't give discount!!! But I can't trust them coz when they put the rate in the hotel site it means it's for every one who visits the site. So where the special discount for usmle takers go???!

  #7

they have some contract with usmle to have them to put their hotel name in ecfmg site with the agree ment of discount but they answer like this!!
